Job Description

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining a mix of on premise and cloud based server and storage Infrastructure. Infrastructure that is spread across multiple sites within the United States, Canada and Europe.  The Senior System Engineer is expected to set goals, monitor server and storage infrastructure, and contribute to a range of projects designed to see the business grow and evolve.  The Senior System Engineer plays a pivotal role in the planning, designing, implementing, monitoring and maintenance of all server, storage, backup, cloud, and disaster recovery infrastructure of the Jack Links global enterprise environment.  The Senior System Engineer must also have extensive knowledge of Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). 

Jack Link’s hires engineers who are not only technically competent but are also willing to be challenged and thrive in a team orientated workplace. The Senior System Engineer must be capable of building strong collaborative relationships between the IT team and all Jack Links business teams. The Senior System Engineer will also need to have the ability to communicate complex server and storage technical knowledge and expertise to executive IT and Business leadership as required.  The Senior System Engineer may work with the System Architect to provide a technical perspective to help process owners identify opportunities for technology expansion.

The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Influences and sets priorities in the process to identify, build and test both On Premise and cloud standard servers, storage and Citrix environments, their associated hardware, software and infrastructure security

  • Leverages extensive knowledge of SaaS, PaaS and IaaS to help determine the best cloud-based application solution for business requirements.

  • Partner with site leadership to understand business requirements that pertain to server, storage and Citrix services required to keep Jack Links functioning and to provide technology solutions

  • Identify problem management trends and determine root cause analysis of issues

  • Identify non-value added manual support tasks and automate to reduce team impact

  • Engage with Project Teams to plan for the testing and delivery of customer technology solutions

  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks as assigned from internal and project leadership

  • Utilize and update enterprise ticketing system (Numara Track-IT) to keep a record of work assigned and to maintain expected incident management and service level agreements with the business.  When necessary, ensure timely escalation of client problems.

  • Perform Level 2/3 analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of server and storage technical problems for a variety of end users plus identify, test and implement corrective hardware solutions, including off-site repair, as needed.

  • Maintain an inventory of all server, storage and Citrix components and services

  • Track and maintain vendor licensing for all supported components

  • Develop standard server build images, based on operating system, and provide cross training to team members on deployment and support

  • Develop and maintain training documentation for all supported components.

  • Provide on-going training to system engineers and system administrators.

  • Provide on-call, off-hours and weekend server and storage support as assigned to support the JLBJ staff.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in computer related field or equivalent work experience

  • MCSE level experience/certification

  • VMWare experience/certification

  • Windows Server 2012/2016 experience/certification

Required Experience:

  • Six plus years recent physical/virtual server, SAN and Citrix support experience

  • Strong customer-service and team orientation.

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

  • Able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of current technological developments and trends in industry.

  • Available for afterhours support as needed

  • Valid driver’s license and insurable

  • Ability to travel to other plant locations

Preferred:

  • 4-year technical degree in computer science field

  • Office 365 experience/certification

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

Proven experience understanding advanced server, storage and software defined components.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must work effectively with all levels of management and employees

Demonstrate effective leadership, problem solving, presentation, and employee motivational skills.

Proficient in Internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
