Job Description

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing guidance, support, and coordination in the consistent and effective application of policies, procedures, and practices of the Human Resource department. Helps ensure compliance with appropriate governing laws and regulations. Acts as a steward of the company culture and fully supports initiatives.  This position provides Human Resource support by partnering with management and employees in areas such as talent acquisition, employee relations, payroll, worker’s compensation, onboarding, employee engagement, performance management and other various activities/projects. 

Qualifications

Employee Relations/Culture

  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention. 
  • Plan and coordinate special events and employee recognition programs to improve teamwork and communication. 
  • Resolve basic, low-risk employee relations issues and follow a consistently-applied disciplinary process.   
  • Understand legal requirements related to day to day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. 
  • Respond to and file all unemployment claims within prescribed timelines. 
  • Conduct exit interviews and report on trends with proposed solutions for improvement on turnover. 
  • Assist HR Manager with change management initiatives. 

 Staffing

  • Perform full cycle recruiting, searching, screening, interviewing, running background checks, administering drug tests and making offers of employment. 
  • Support HR Manager to manage recruitment efforts against a standardized staffing roster; identify and propose creative ways to fill open positions and take on a proactive approach to recruitment. 
  • Facilitate and deliver a consistent and effective onboarding program and work with management to ensure successful orientation of new hires into the organization. 

 Compliance

  • Assist with the management of workers compensation claims, communication with employee and plan claims administrator. 
  • Regularly process payroll and/or assist with payroll ensuring accuracy and data integrity. 
  • Support Corporate benefits to ensure adequate and consistent information gets communicated to employees during open enrollment. 
  • Coordinate with management adherence to the performance management process; assist as needed with coaching managers on how to write more effective performance reviews. 
  • Administer local bonus programs and payouts. 
  • Act as liaison for leave of absence and disability requests.

 SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 Education: 

  • Four-year degree in Human Resources or business-related field or equivalent work experience required. 

  • SHRM certification preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the HR field; previous experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.   

  • Proven ability to work with employees at all levels in an organization. 

  • Prior experience with payroll and/or HRIS systems preferred

Preferred:                         

  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred. 

  • Knowledge of SAP preferred.

  • PHR or SPHR certification

  • Ability to calculate using fractions, decimals, and percentages, copy figures, count and record without transposing numbers.

  • Knowledge on employment law and other HR related concepts.

  • Follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Must demonstrate effective leadership, problem solving, presentation, and employee motivational skills.

  • Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
