Job Description

JYSK is seeking a Disability Claims Specialist to join our Human Resources team on a permanent, full-time basis.  This role is responsible for the disability and leaves management program and for providing advice and support to management on day-to-day colleague relations and performance management issues.

This role will be based out of our head office in Coquitlam, BC.

Disability Claims Management Duties

  • Manages the leave of absence programs, including medical and non-medical leave of absence, maternity/parental leave, and work-related leaves
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for all disability management matters
  • Manages the more complex work-related disability and other leave claims including acting as a key liaison for managers, colleagues, and WCB/WSIB/CNESST/disability carriers
  • Working with key stakeholders, facilitates proactive and respectful Return-to-work (RTW) and Stay-at-work (STW) processes
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with best practices and statutory/legal requirements

Human Resources Advisor Duties

  • Supports on colleague matters within a set district by conducting facilitated discussions with managers to get to the root causes - including posing questions, seeking other perspectives, exploring solutions - then resolving the situation
  • Provides guidance and support on the application of our HR policies – in particular performance coaching, corrective action, and absenteeism management - to managers and colleagues
  • Conduct formal investigations for more complex or serious people challenges and escalate to the HR Director when required
  • In conjunction with the Learning and Development team, visits stores and coaches Managers and colleagues to build a healthy, engaged, and well supported team so they are better equipped to do their best work 
  • Provides recommendations to improve the JYSK working culture

What do you bring to the role?

  • Fluent in both English and French (written and spoken)
  • Minimum 5 years claims-related work experience in non-occupational and occupational leaves and disability claims – including strong knowledge of claims coverage issues and managing the process from the point of notification right through to settlement - preferably within retail and/or distribution centre (warehouse) environment
  • Experienced with partnering with national claims management providers including WCB, WSIB, CNESST, and Equitable Life is an asset
  • Previous experience in a Human Resources advisor role, ideally in retail
  • Ability to develop collaborative and meaningful relationships with managers, colleagues, and key stakeholders
  • Able to demonstrate excellent judgment in managing complex problems, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality always
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment where priorities change
  • Reliable; able to work independently, and as part of a remote team
  • Willing to travel nationally - Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
