Job Description
We are seeking a Consultant to join our Building Consulting team in Danbury, Connecticut. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven individual with a well-rounded skill set to join a dynamic team whose responsibilities extend beyond traditional estimating functions. The ideal person for this role will need to have a strong foundation in estimating property damage losses, while also being flexible, adaptable, and a strategic thinker who can take on a variety of responsibilities.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of projects involving restoration, insurance, and remediation. Candidates should bring at least two years of estimating experience or relevant experience within the restoration, insurance, or construction industries. Backgrounds such as large loss insurance adjusting, reconstruction, roofing, appraisal, mitigation, cost analysis, or disaster recovery are all highly relevant and welcomed.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience assessing and minimizing damage during emergencies or disaster events, with an understanding of disaster response protocols, risk evaluation, and preventative measures. Experience restoring properties impacted by fire, water, or other damage is highly valued, along with the ability to oversee on-site operations and ensure work is executed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
Success in this role requires a strong desire to learn and apply industry methodologies related to negotiating and settling claims in a timely manner. Strong analytical and writing skills are essential, as this position involves producing clear, well-supported expert reports that help clients make informed, high-value decisions.
Job Responsibilities
- Interfaces with clients and project representatives - adjusters, brokers, insurers, etc.
- Schedules and perform field inspections and necessary site visits to evaluate the scope of work/damage.
- Estimates medium to large commercial and residential projects using industry standard estimating software.
- Documents, reviews, and analyzes; schedules, contracts, change orders, correspondence, daily reports, meeting minutes, monthly reports, and any additional documents related to the project/file.
- Provide technical direction to other consultants, interacting and supporting their files.
- Collaborate with Business Development Managers to help develop new business opportunities and continue to nurture and strengthen existing client relationships.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university; or 5 years of demonstrable experience and accomplishments in the restoration/construction industry, in lieu of a degree may suffice.
- 2+ years of estimating experience and/or work experience in the restoration, insurance, and remediation field, with responsibilities for estimating property damage losses.
- Proficiency in working with Xactimate, Symbility, RS Means, or other estimating software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word with strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality expert reports.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Project management skills.
- Strong analysis and critical thinking skills.
- Able to meet deadlines while being detail oriented.
- Strong independent work ethic and leadership skills and qualities.
- Exceptional customer service skills to support and solve our client’s questions and requests.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Physical & Mental Qualifications:
- Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
- Must be able to write reports of findings after inspections 50% of day-to-day.
- May be exposed to UV radiation from the sun, radon, or other forms of air pollution.
- Willingness to travel 30% of the time – locally, out-of-state, and for CAT response when needed.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $60,000 - $75,000. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
