Job Description

Role Overview

The Senior Regulatory Scientist will lead product safety evaluations across food, beverage, personal care, cosmetic, and dietary supplement sectors. This role focuses on ensuring consumer safety through rigorous toxicological assessments, regulatory compliance, and litigation support. The successful candidate will combine scientific expertise with practical risk management to protect public health and support client innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Safety Evaluation
    • Support the conduct of comprehensive safety assessments for finished products and raw materials in food, personal care, cosmetics, and dietary supplements.
    • Provide evaluation of toxicological profiles for ingredients, contaminants, and packaging materials using advanced modelling (PBPK, IVIVE, benchmark dose).
    • Identify potential hazards and recommend risk mitigation strategies to ensure consumer safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Perform compliance reviews for cosmetic and personal care raw materials and final products.
    • Support the preparation of GRAS dossiers and submissions to regulatory authorities (FDA, , EU frameworks).
    • Advise clients on global product safety standards and emerging regulations.
  • Litigation Support
    • Provide expert witness testimony and prepare defensible scientific reports for product liability and contamination cases.
    • Collaborate with legal teams on safety-related disputes and regulatory challenges.
  • Project Leadership
    • Lead multi-disciplinary safety projects, ensuring scientific integrity and timely delivery.
    • Mentor junior staff and contribute to internal training on product safety and regulatory affairs.
  • Client Engagement
    • Translate complex safety data and regulatory information into actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Support clients during interruptions to business, audits, inspections, and legal reviews.

 

  • Research & Development
    • Stay ahead of developments in toxicology, product safety, and regulatory science.
    • Publish and present findings in peer-reviewed journals and industry forums.

Qualifications

  • Education: Degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Food Science, or related discipline (DABT certification preferred).
  • Experience: More than 10 years in regulatory toxicology with a strong focus on product safety evaluations and regulatory compliance for food, cosmetics, and personal care products.
  • Skills:
    • Consulting experience in product safety and regulatory affairs.
    • Expertise in regulation of consumer products including foods, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
    • Strong analytical and modelling capabilities.
    • Excellent communication skills for client and legal interactions.
    • Proven track record in litigation support and regulatory submissions.
    • Ability to manage complex projects and mentor teams.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $115,000 - $160,000. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
