Job Description

Summary

This self-starting individual is responsible for driving fundraising success for the JDRF One Walk program in the Greater New York City Chapter, with a primary focus on a selection of Walks across our territory in New York City, Long Island, Fairfield County, Hudson Valley, and Westchester County. Through collaboration and coordination with national teams, Chapter staff, and volunteer partners, the Development Manager champions a strategic approach to One Walk program development including team recruitment and development, volunteer leader recruitment and engagement, and stewardship that will grow the program at all levels and ensure an extraordinary participant experience.

The right person in this position is also responsible for driving corporate engagement for the chapter, including identifying new funding opportunities, advancing relationships with prospective and current corporate donors, and coordinating proposal development, submission and reporting.

The Development Manager is an integral member of the team, driving new business development, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of fundraising, and chapter operations.  This includes identifying and engaging new donors, managing, evaluating, and expanding cultivation opportunities, oversight of various event activities, and support.  They organize and execute select administrative components that support the donor giving cycle, from qualification to stewardship.

It is a hybrid position with a current minimum of two days a week in the office (lower Manhattan).

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Director, Peer to Peer Programs, develops a comprehensive participant and donor relations strategy.
  • Collaborates with chapter staff as well as national staff resources to ensure the Chapter’s revenue growth in the One Walk and as a pipeline driver for all other engagement.
  • Manages recruitment, fundraising and stewardship of all participants in assigned portfolio.
  • Meets registration and fundraising goals for returning and new family, corporate and school teams by executing long-range and short-range strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new donors. 
  • In partnership with chapter staff, helps manage event logistics for the One Walk, including kick-off and rally events, Walk Day, and Awards Celebrations.
  • Manages Walk operations in both Walk management software, Luminate Online, and CRM database. Pull reports and serve as the first contact to troubleshoot with teams.
  • Strategically and consistently utilizes CRM data management tool to maximize efficiency and effective tracking of donor pipeline.
  • Serve as the lead in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting corporations for operating and program support, volunteer programs, employee team participation and activation, special projects, and event sponsorships including the JDRF One Walk and Promise Ball.
  • Steward and work to grow current corporate Chapter partners
  • Work with National Corporate Development team to manage local relationships with our national corporate partners and help identify Chapter partners who can be elevated to national partner
  • Lead strategy and execution of marketing funding sponsorships and cause marketing opportunities with companies whose interests align with JDRF’s mission and values.
  • Implement new events and programs to grow corporate support
  • Identifies, builds, and stewards relationships with community leaders as an integral part of volunteer and donor prospect development and engagement in JDRF activities.
  • Helps formulate and implement strategies and tactics for Chapter fundraising and development activities for continued growth and maximum penetration of core market areas.
  • Ensures personal accountability for meeting deadlines and responding to volunteers and other department requests.
  • Supports other fundraising events, chapter activities and programs as assigned. 
  • Maintains a solid understanding of JDRF’s mission and funded research.
  • Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of JDRF.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of work experience including 2+ years fundraising or relevant business/volunteer experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in new business development and account management preferred.
  • Experience in peer to peer fundraising programs preferred.
  • Experience in corporate engagement and activation support preferred.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers.
  • Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to “jump in” when needed.
  • Team oriented focus with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with committee development.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM databases.
  • Adaptable and flexible in fast-paced environment, able to multi-task and handle several priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on new projects.
  • Occasional evening/weekend work required as needed. Ability to travel within the entire chapter footprint, including occasional overnight travel.
  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Target Salary: $69,600-$71k
