Job Description

The Associate Executive Director (AED) serves in a Chapter leadership capacity, partnering with the Executive Director and key Chapter stakeholders to advance strategic planning and execution toward transformational growth objectives.  Overseeing the success of the Chapter’s event core program activities, the AED will directly supervise the functional lead staff of our Peer-To-Peer and Signature Events work, with strong matrix supervision of other staff within those departments.   This robust, multi-million dollar portfolio of work includes JDRF One Walks, Ride to Cure Diabetes,  JDRF Your Way / Third Party, Gala and Other Special Events. 
The AED will bring experience and skills in leading and executing multi-strategy, donor-centric, mission support integration across a variety of development opportunities.  Additionally, the AED is responsible for Chapter strategy and execution of moving volunteers through the donor lifecycle and developing pipeline to maximize community and individual engagement and impact for JDRF.  

The AED will manage a portfolio of individual donors and fundraisers, corporate sponsors and supporters and other key stakeholders to help drive the Chapter’s goals.  Engaging a shared values methodology, the AED will take a lead role in overall corporate development for the Chapter. 

The Chapter’s footprint covers three states, with most of the current support and activity taking place around the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro area.   Direct donor work will require the AED to be physically available for meetings, and with the Chapter office currently located in Bloomington, MN, reasonable access on a regular basis is desired. 
Working within JDRF's volunteer - staff partnership environment, the AED supports and embodies the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of JDRF. 


Responsibilities:

•    Serves as a key leader for the Minnesota Dakotas Chapter.
•    In partnership with the Chapter Executive Director, manages the functioning of the Chapter's daily operations including overseeing the day-to-day management of assigned Chapter activities, staff, and volunteers in the implementation of strategic and operational plans to drive fundraising and non-fundraising priorities.
•    Supervises staff as assigned, including contributing to staffing decisions and staff evaluations.  Provides ongoing growth and development by motivating, developing, and directing staff as they work to achieve JDRF and Chapter priorities. 
•    Leads planning and management of Core Revenue Campaigns.  
•    Collaborates with an outstanding team of local staff as well as national staff resources to ensure Chapter core fundraising revenue targets are achieved and exceeded.
•    Manages a portfolio of constituents and supports efforts for high-level donor cultivation and engagement plans that result in giving and Chapter engagement. 
•    Identifies and develops new business with both existing donors as well as new prospects and provides excellent donor relationship management to key Chapter stakeholders.
•    Avidly utilizes CRM platform (Salesforce) to track portfolio and moves management progress. 
•    In partnership with the Chapter ED and Development Staff, leads the recruitment and solicitation of key Chapter donor and fundraisers.
•    Ensures continuity of Chapter performance during staffing vacancies as assigned.
•    Assists in the development and engagement of Board members, as well as with the identification and cultivation of potential Board members in coordination with the Executive Director and Nominating Committee.
•    In partnership with the Chapter Executive Director, administers and coordinates the annual Chapter planning and budgeting program for quality assurance and alignment with JDRF strategic initiatives.
•    Communicates and sets expectations clearly and appropriately.
•    Establishes and maintains departmental and organization-wide policies and procedures and supports Regional and National directives. 
•    Represents the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of JDRF in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the JDRF mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example. 
•    Maintains a clear understanding of JDRF’s mission and research priorities to communicate donor impact.
•    Ensures the confidentiality and security of proprietary information.
•    Establishes a network and represents the organization in professional societies/organizations.
•    Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
 

Qualifications

•    8 to 10 years of progressively responsible and related fundraising experience with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity. 
•    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. 
•    Experienced with staff and volunteer management, including committee development, corporate development, and succession planning.
•    Ability to effectively multi-task and establish priorities to work in a fast-paced environment.  
•    Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.  
•    Financial management experience (budget development and management and forecasting).   
•    Team player that can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers. 
•    Ability to develop, maintain, and leverage relationships.  
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong public speaking/presentation skills.  
•    Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, meet deadlines, problem-solve and multi-task.
•    Ability for presentation delivery, conveying ideas and instructing effectively.  
•    Superior active listening, observation, and analytical skills.  
•    Ability to exercise sound judgment.  
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred).  
•    Ability to inspire, lead and motivate a team; lead by example as a player-coach.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building skills. Ability to build rapport with participants, donors, volunteers, and the public.
•    Enjoys working on a team and is adaptable.
•    Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.  
•    Well-disciplined and a self-starter that is extremely resourceful.  
•    Works well within a matrix structure where more than one individual is providing guidance, feedback, counsel, and support.
•    Ability to travel within the Chapter footprint. Occasional evening and weekend work required to support all Chapter events.
