Job Description

FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The JDRF Research team is looking for a Research Partnerships Consultant, Middle-East, for a 12 month contract. This is a REMOTE role with a geographic scope of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, United Arabic Emirates, Kuwait, and Israel.  The purpose of the role is to identify and develop long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with key stakeholders, such as research foundations, governmental agencies and private entities in the Middle East. In close collaboration with the Director, European Research, you will form and follow a strategy to build a pipeline of opportunities seeded in the region.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to carry out a landscape analysis of the research partnership opportunities and key research stakeholders in the Middle East. The study is expected to provide a comprehensive mapping of partner priorities and objectives in the field of diabetes and its complications as well as an overview of the major regional governmental, NGO and private sector stakeholders in the space.

The candidate is expected to represent JDRF in the relationship building and partnership negotiations. The ideal candidate will possess thorough knowledge of and a strong network in the medical and scientific research environment in the Middle East. They will lead efforts on landscape analysis and scouting for new opportunities, identify key stakeholders, and develop structures for new partnerships, serving as a lead negotiator with external parties. In addition, the Research Partnerships Consultant, Middle-East, is expected to set up at least one partnership during their term.

This individual will be required to be highly adaptable, able to work independently while ensuring a consistent degree of collaboration and compliance with organizational policies. They will report to the Director, European Research.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mapping and analysis of organizations and their priorities and current and past activities in relation to research funding with particular emphasis on metabolic diseases, autoimmunity, disease prevention and medical device development.
  • Identify emerging partnership opportunities. Provide assessments on suitability of potential opportunities together with JDRF scientific staff. 
  • Lead negotiation and implementation of at least 1 partnership agreement between JDRF and a key stakeholder.
  • Identify partner/partnership priority relationships and develop engagement strategies.
  • Develop and grow a network of contacts within partner organizations through targeted outreach and strong project planning.
  • Analyze and report on partner initiatives, forecast for strategic changes and report on key metrics.
  • Serve as an internal resource on business agreements in the Middle East.
  • Communicate ideas and data in a persuasive, diplomatic and appropriate manner.

 

Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of experience in partnership management and alliance management
  • Strong understanding of research funding landscape in the Middle East
  • Experience in business development, including direct experience leading negotiations and implementing agreements. A deal sheet may be requested.
  • Experience in alliance management and leadership of complex partnerships and collaborations.
  • Facility with scientific/technical vocabulary required; ability to quickly familiarize and synthesize ideas from a broad range of medical research topics.
  • Prior experience in a scientific research environment, industry and/or a not-for-profit organization desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to successfully influence internal and external stakeholders. Facility in communicating complex concepts in a clear fashion to diverse audiences.
  • Drive to deliver. Must be highly self-motivated, curious, organized and flexible. Must be a self-starter as well as a team player.
  • Fluency in English required and in a local language desired.

 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10 years of partnership experience. Master’s Degree or Advanced Degree in bioscience or equivalent, preferred
