Job Description

Summary:

Responsible for providing the strategic vision and leadership to guide JDRF’s Development enterprise through the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the organization’s prospect management and research acumen. This position will drive prospect management, identify and receive leads, create and maintain functional systems for identifying and tracking prospects/donors to meet current and future fundraising campaign goals. Strategic Leader for the implementation of business practices and processes to drive the work of the development team across JDRF, including utilization of moves management, portfolio analysis and assessment, performance management, and budgeting/forecasting, in partnership with the Field, Leadership Giving, Corporate Development and other internal partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining a Moves Management process that supports the work of Relationship Managers across JDRF to ensure that thoughtful and realistic plans are in place for all prospects and donors in portfolios.
  • Managing major gift prospect/donor data, as maintained by relationship managers (including information collection, maintenance, storage, and output); providing relationship managers tools and resources to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects/donors.
  • Provides ongoing tracking and analysis of prospect portfolios; ongoing design and execution of management reporting to facilitate tracking, prospecting, data mining and analytics; and the creating and maintenance of policies, procedures and business rules.
  • Develops reporting which allows for the analysis and assessment of the quality of individual portfolios and the overall health of the broad portfolio.
  • Provides Performance Management Tools and resources required by Relationship Managers and management team to drive best-in-class results in portfolio management across donor pyramid.
  • Supports Financial Management tools and resources including budgeting and forecasting in the department in partnership with Finance and Data and Technology.
  • Manage centralized prospect research team responsible for portfolio development of top tier prospects.
  • Facilitates the vetting process when needed for prospect accounts and new opportunities for active accounts with senior leadership.
  • Owns change management for prospect assignment process, which includes partnering with Communications and Talent Strategy by delivering content, ensuring that best practices, lessons learned, industry knowledge and new trends are instilled enterprise wide, along with the appropriate sales and account management acumen.
  • Manages, coaches, and develops direct reports, ensuring that the responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities are well-defined.
  • Actively demonstrates and cascades the enterprise-wide mindsets: integrity, collaboration and stewardship.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in nonprofit development and prospect management related work experience.
  • Relevant development experience and background in a University, hospital, or health association setting.
  • Demonstrated ability in the development of a functioning prospect/donor management system.
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM or comparable relational fundraising database.
  • Understanding of individual and foundation giving vocabulary, vehicles, and strategy.
  • Understanding of ever-changing trends in fundraising and philanthropy.
  • Ability to apply appropriate fundraising strategies to projects.
  • Ability to analyze and match charitable and economic interests of prospective donors with JDRF.
  • Ability to evaluate prospects/donors by financial capacity, interests, and relationships.
  • Knowledge of the cultivation process/cycle: Identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Ability to perform in-house data mining, including sophisticated constituent database queries and a strong understanding of statistical modeling concepts.
  • Mastery of general fundraising strategies and the ability to offer strategic suggestions and approaches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation delivery, ability to convey ideas, and provide effective instruction.
  • Superior active listening, observation, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree or CFRE preferred. Courses of study should include business, marketing, library science or equivalent field.
  • Proven track record of experience supervising, coaching and developing staff

  • Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative. Strong capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements. Inspiring team player who can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers to develop, maintain and utilize relationships.
