Job Description

The Development Coordinator will focus on how to increase the JDRF Greater Iowa Chapter’s community engagement and the Chapter’s revenue by managing and coordinating chapter public outreach and other constituency and community development activities. The candidate should have some experience with financial record-keeping, donation processing and data management. He/she also should have an understanding of some peer to peer fundraising tactics and event fundraising, donor stewardship and program/project planning.

General

  • Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of JDRF. 
  • Serve as a positive, passionate, enthusiastic, knowledgeable advocate for and representative of JDRF and the Chapter.
  • Ensure personal accountability for meeting deadlines and responding to volunteers and other department requests.
  • Respond to and follow through on inquiries, needs, complaints and/or issues in a prompt and courteous manner. 
  • Maintain steady communication with team members.

Outreach – 45%

  • Develop and implement Outreach Program, including, but not limited to, identifying, recruiting and coaching Community Engagement Committee, managing Youth Ambassador program, coordinating the T1D Connections Program and managing accurate recording of Bag of Hope distribution and other Outreach information in JDRF databases.
  • Help to expand JDRF's presence across the community by networking with hospitals, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical partners and community partners, such as camps and school nurse organizations.
  • Be familiar with all JDRF internal Outreach and related resources and publications; maintain a good understanding of JDRF’s mission and research efforts.
  • Research local grant opportunities and develop grant requests to fund Outreach projects.
  • Partner with the chapter Executive Director and Development Director to plan and coordinate the annual TypeOneNation Summit and other Outreach events.

Fundraising – 20%

  • In partnership with Development staff, identify, manage, coach and steward new Family Walk teams.
  • Help develop and implement strategies for new Family Walk teams for continued growth.
  • Manage JDRF’s national partners in the local community by collaborating with national and regional staff to ensure a strong relationship with the partners in the Greater Iowa landscape.
  • Manage event logistics for the Hope Gala and the assist with logistics for the JDRF One Walk.
  • Assist in identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors, participants, and volunteers.
  • Manage and identify third party events.

Office Operations – 35%

  • Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of JDRF. Understand the strategic direction and purpose of the organization and support the Chapter’s fundraising strategies and business needs.
  • Work within chapter budget to ensure that the chapter is fiscally responsible.
  • Maintain accurate Chapter financial records, ensuring that budgets and timelines are met for each event/activity.
  • Provide administrative support for fundraising activities, which includes tracking, acknowledging, and depositing (via scanner) all donations, maintaining the current database of prospects and preparing information needed for meetings, where applicable. 
  • Oversee the preparation of all financial reporting and record keeping. Ensure that the chapter is complying with JDRF Finance SOP and audit guidelines.
  • Serve as the matching gift administrator for the Chapter.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, such as coordination of people and resources,
  • planning, and resource allocation, as well as ability to develop presentations, reports, and business correspondence, manage files and records, and coordinate other office procedures. 
  • Experience with computer systems and databases. Proficiency in word processing software and hardware including Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Effectively able to multi-task, establish priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Team player with the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers. 
  • Highly skilled at developing and maintaining relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Active listening, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.
  • Well-disciplined self-starter, extremely resourceful while also being collaborative and an amazing team player.
  • Local travel required. Evening and weekend work required as needed.
