Job Description

About the role:

Reporting to the Automation Engineer, the Automation Technician provides programming, maintenance, repair, security and resilience of the Critical Control Network – CCN, systems and applications according to the defined strategy. The Automation Technician ensures all manufacturing equipment, servers and systems operates at target efficiency and within agreed budget.

Key responsibilities of the role:  

Safety Health and Environment

Drive a Safety Health and Environment culture and role model behaviours. Complies with the Safety Health and Environment requirements and legislation implementation and complies to legal and corporate standards & policies.

Complies with Personal Protective Equipment – PPE and necessary safety tools.

Carry out Behaviour Observation Safety – BOS and Ongoing Feedback System - OFS to the required standard.

Follows safety instructions and work safely & orderly using as an example Lock Out Tag Out Test Out – LOTOTO and permit to work – PTW.

Quality

Deliver a Quality culture and role model behaviours. Responsible for Quality requirements and legislation implementation and complies to legal and corporate standards & policies

Delivery & Cost

Maintenance and repair of the Critical Control Network - CCN and systems

  • Delivering the department roadmap, playing a major part in the development of data handling, patching, backup and disaster recovery procedures for critical control assets
  • Maintain and develop engineering and production applications with in the manufacturing department (e.g. MES, data acquisition, network design and management etc).
  • Anticipate and identify sources of problems which appear during programming process and take appropriate actions to ensure manufacturing process continuity.
  • Ensure the correct management of electronic spare parts in a cost efficient manner.
  • Execute regular inspections of electronic equipment and software. Report findings and follow up on repairs required.
  • Assist Automation Engineer to develop/updating maintenance/operating procedures impacted by control systems.
  • Identify and work with technical associates to develop best practices for process(es)/equipment.
  • Leads troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex control system related issues.

Security and resilience of the Critical Control Network - CCN and systems

  • Monitoring, coordination and implementation of security procedures and processes.
  • Deploy security practices, measures and technologies including but not limited to OS and application match management.
  • Authentication, authorization and accounting by means of Active Directory Backup Management.
  • Antimalware management.
  • Promote awareness of security standards and procedures including but not limited to.
  • Create technical and non-technical documents for all audiences.
  • Provide security expertise for all new projects and activities and act as owner for local security initiatives.
  • Support compliance with security standards and procedures.
  • Implement security solutions based on industry leading practices to mitigate security exposure.
  • Implement technical standards and solutions for common use cases in the manufacturing unit.
  • Follow up on security nonconformance according to the risk acceptance procedure.

Projects

  • Actively participate in cross functional projects to launch new products, install and start-up new production equipment and/or to implement plant wide optimization projects in all areas.

General

  • Takes full responsibility to achieve personal performance targets. Has a strong understanding of the team and individual contribution to the Compelling Business Need – CBN.
  • Supports manufacturing excellence through the hands-on approach.
  • Manufacturing Operating System - MOS roll out plan by owning the relevant tools and or systems.
  • Updates relevant information, tracking and reporting systems and ensures data reliability.
  • Creates and or update standards.
  • Trains the Operators and Technicians to improve the understanding of the areas control systems.

Qualifications

  • Electrical background with HNC or equivalent
  • Proven PLC and SCADA programming, development and configuration skills
  • Comprehensive experience of both Packing and process related systems.
  • Specific system knowledge: Rockwell PLC5 and CLX; FIX32 SCADA; Factory Talk View (knowledge of entire Factory Talk suite preferable); ControlNet, DH+ and Ethernet networks.
  • Sound knowledge of IT systems including networks, data transfer and storage
  • Systematic and logical approach to fault finding and problem solving
  • Appreciation and understanding of relevant UK and European standards, codes of practice and procedures
