As the global packaging R&D team for JDE, our team is responsible for delivering packaging innovations and renovations in the areas of roast & ground, instant and single serve coffee. We’re looking for an intern with a packaging engineer/chemical or material engineer or industrial design background to support several key innovation and renovation initiatives.  

In your role as Packaging R&D intern, you will support the JDE packaging technologists in developing and delivering key innovations and renovations. Activities comprise: 

  • Packaging Life Cycle Assessment  

  • Packaging Structure Characterization 

  • Maintenance of Packaging Sustainability Database 

  • General support on packaging development 

  • Ideation and design for innovations 

  • Finding technical solutions for consumer/marketing needs 

  • Validating technologies through executing trials and tests 

  • Supporting (factory) trials 

  • General support to the packaging R&D team in Utrecht 

Qualifications

Do you fulfill the following requirements? 

  • Technical background in chemical engineer, materials engineer, packaging technology, design, chemistry, industrial design or similar 

  • Affinity for packaging technology and materials 

  • Good organizational skills (organizing, reporting, etc.) 

  • Good communication skills 

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written) 

This role is for HBO/Bachelor/Master students in the final phase of their studies for a minimum of 6 months internship at our Utrecht Research and Development Center. 

To be successful in this role you need to be enrolled at a University for the whole duration of the internship. Please note that non-EU students enrolled in EU University should have right to work for the whole extend of the internship. 

Preferable degrees include: packaging engineer/chemical or material engineer or industrial design. 

You are highly motivated, an excellent communicator, fluent in English, inquisitive, analytical and prepared to work in a fast-paced, dynamic international environment. 

Additional Information

The monthly internship allowance is € 450,- for a HBO student or € 500,- for a WO student, based on a fulltime 40 hour workweek. The internship starts at the beginning of September 2021, and is for a period of 6 months. 

Timeline: 

  • May: Application stage 

  • Mid-June: Video Interviews 

  • June-July: Contract stage 

  • Beginning of September: Start of internship
