In your role as Technology Solutions R&D Intern you will be given full responsibility and accountability for projects from the beginning of your placement and you’ll have an opportunity to fully integrate and actually make a difference.  

For the Technology positions we are recruiting for two intern positions 

  1. Grinding and densification: research in these technologies is an important driver for the development of new processes for coffee manufacturing. This project will mainly focus on effects of different process parameters on physical properties of the Roast & Ground coffee. The work load of the successful candidate will include pilot plant trials and analysis of the chemical physical properties of the resulting product. Finally data analysis and interpretation and communication of the results.  
  2. Industrial Extraction fundamentals: research in this area is an important driver for future development of new technologies for stabilization of coffee concentrates to minimize aroma degradation. The project activities are focusing on set-up and execution of both laboratory and pilot plant trials, analyses of properties of trial products, data analysis of process settings and product properties and interpretation (modelling) and reporting of these findings. You will be able to independently plan and execute experiments related to your project areas, as well as produce technical reports/presentations and periodically communicate key findings to stakeholders. You will be a part of one of the teams within R&D, but also have the opportunity to interact with your peers in other departments within and outside of R&D. In addition, at busy times, you may be expected to support other ongoing project activities outside of your immediate team and, for some disciplines, occasional international travel may be required. 

Qualifications

This role is for Master students in the final phase of their studies for a 6 months internship at our Utrecht Research and Development Center. To be successful in this role you need to be enrolled at a University for the whole duration of the internship. Please note that non-EU students enrolled in EU University should have right to work for the whole extend of the internship. 

Preferable degrees include: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, &  Food Technology.  

You are highly motivated, an excellent communicator, fluent in English, inquisitive, analytical and prepared to work in a fast-paced, dynamic international environment. 

Additional Information

The monthly internship allowance is € 450,- for a HBO student or € 500,- for a WO student, based on a fulltime 40 hour workweek. The internship starts at the beginning of September 2021, and is for a period of 6 months.
