Job Description

The Indirect Tax Specialist Malaysia is responsible for advising and managing the indirect tax affairs (including indirect tax compliance and indirect tax reporting) of JDE’s subsidiaries in Malaysia by providing indirect tax technical support, advice and assistance to local functions, business units and legal entities, in Malaysia, providing support in the implementation of a great variety of projects from an indirect tax perspective and providing support in indirect tax audits and questions from tax authorities. Indirect tax (including SST, customs duties and sugar taxes) and indirect tax compliance in Malaysia will be the primary focus and responsibility.

You will play an important role, such as:

Implementing strategies & policies

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Group Tax Strategy, Policies and Procedures in Asia.

Business partnering and day-to-day support regional and local functions

  • Cooperate with and provide expertise and guidance to local business and finance functions on day-to-day indirect tax related matters;
  • Provide support in the implementation of a great variety of projects from an indirect tax perspective, which amongst others may include the development of new products, business integration and/or reorganization, transfer of manufacturing activities, or transfer of export business ;
  • Build up a strong network of contacts in finance and business functions within JDE, with primary focus Malaysia.

Managing indirect tax risks and opportunities

  • Support the Indirect Tax Manager Asia with indirect tax reviews, indirect tax audits – or questions from tax authorities in any other form as the case may be – and indirect tax litigations;
  • Manage (together with the Indirect Tax Manager Asia) the monitoring of compliance with indirect tax filing obligations, customs cost statement calculations, or agreements with tax authorities in any other form for the entities in Malaysia, if and when appropriate;
  • Manage the monitoring of compliance with the Group’s Tax Strategy, Policy and Procedures for the entities in the Malaysia and pro-active alignment with the Indirect Tax Manager Asia in this regard;
  • (Pro)actively monitor Malaysian legislative developments, evaluate potential impact, assess measures in order to optimize ongoing operations and/or mitigate risks.

External stakeholder management

  • Effectively manage relationships and communication with third party tax advisors, external (statutory) auditors and tax authorities or other governmental bodies as relevant for indirect tax affairs of the JDE group of legal entities in Malaysia, e.g. the Customs authorities and MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry).

Review VAT settings in Master Data

  • Improve the ITX relevant settings in Master Data

Standardize current way of working

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Global VAT Reporting Tool and other automations and standardizations in the ITX processes in Malaysia
  • Minimize manual steps in the ITX processes

Prepare and file SST compliance requirements

  • VAT compliance activities are now carried out by various departments. The ITX Specialist will contribute to improving the SST compliance process
  • Prepare and filing of the SST compliance reports

 

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, we will need you to have:

  • Master’s degree in Tax law, Fiscal Economics or relevant Financial education, with an understanding of accounting;
  • A minimum of 4-6 years of relevant international and regional indirect tax experience, obtained in an international tax advisory practice;
  • Hands on in an independent, proactive, dedicated, solution-oriented and responsible manner
  • Strong communication skills at different levels
  • Able to earn trust quickly, understand and value diversity and individual differences;
  • Able to drive improvement through people and align an organization in a new and challenging direction;
  • Team player;
  • Fluent in English, and Excellent writing skills.
