Jacobs Douwe Egberts Research and Development (R&D) team is part of the Global JDE organisation. R&D is the major contributor to the development of innovative coffee and tea products and is constantly optimising the product portfolio. The focus of R&D is on building technology platforms, new products, portfolio renovations and productivity initiatives.
This role is for a product development specialist with dairy expertise and experience to operate within the R&D Single Serve Drinks Product Development Team. Based in the JDE R&D centre in Banbury, UK. The role forms part of the wider Tassimo Drinks Product Development Team comprising 10-15 associates responsible for all Tassimo Portfolio Development.
The Tassimo Drinks Product Development team cover product development for the entire Tassimo portfolio: Black coffees, milky drinks, hot chocolate, specialty drinks and tea. Travel to other countries for meetings & trials is a requirement of the role and can account for up to 35% of time.
About the role:
Tassimo is our proprietary single serve multi drink system, established in the market for over 15 years, and is one of our largest global brands. It offers the widest variety of drinks in our portfolio, from Espressos to Americanos, from Filter coffee to Lungos, from indulgent Lattes & Cappuccinos to Hot Chocolates, from Tea to Chai Latte Specialties, there is truly a drink for everyone, available at the touch of a button, with a portfolio continually inspired by Coffee Shop trends.
The Product Development Specialist will operate within the team with a focus on dairy to lead medium-large sized multiple projects (co-currently) end to end from concept/marketing brief to on shelf product for the Tassimo Milky Drink portfolio. They will work closely with other members of the team (e.g. marketing, manufacturing, procurement) to ensure project interdependencies are maximized. The products will be designed and delivered in accordance with the project brief to hit quality, costs and timing targets. Project portfolio scope to cover Innovation, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Productivity initiatives in line with the business needs. The role also requires to develop a detailed understanding of Tassimo Dairy technology, apply to development work and act as the technical expert in this area; to support Proof of Function and deliver Proof of Application of new processes / new product technologies in the dairy area in close collaboration with the Research/New Technologies Team.
The specialist will have a high degree of autonomy in execution with project management support from the category manager. The specialist will enjoy the challenge operating in a high paced category managing multiple projects with some interdependencies and high technical complexity.
Due to the varied nature of Tassimo the product developer in the team will have access to a range of product technologies, from traditional Roast & Ground coffee and Tea technology, to Liquid Dairy Technology and Powder technology, providing unique opportunities to learn and apply knowledge in more than one technical area.
The specialist will also be part of a team that enjoys working with not only our heritage brands (e.g. L’Or, Jacobs, Kenco) but also some other exciting external guest brands (e.g. Costa, Baileys) as part of our successful brand partnerships. As an intelligent Single Serve System using our proprietary Intellibrew bar code technology, you will also stretch your skills beyond just traditional product development to deliver the perfect drink at the touch of a button.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science/Engineering
- Must have significant experience working with dairy/dairy based ingredients in study/previous work as will be essential to success in the role
- Extensive project management experience is essential with evidence of delivering projects from concept to launch
- Must be able to demonstrate hands on experience in pilot plant and factory environment running scale trials and commissioning
- Proficient in Minitab software and statistics – nice to have
