Job Description

Jacobs Douwe Egberts Research and Development (R&D) is part of the Global JDE organisation. R&D is the major contributor to the development of innovative coffee and tea products and is constantly optimising the product portfolio. Focus of R&D is on building technology platforms, new products, portfolio renovations and productivity initiatives. R&D have a strong involvement in JDE business and are providing valuable input to enable business decisions to be made.

The Facilities Specialist Role is part of the Pilot Plant, Facilities, Health & Safety Team within the department. The team are responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of the Banbury R&D Pilot Plant and wider department including offices, labs and Conference Centre. This includes responsibility for the Health & Safety of the entire facility as well as ensuring compliance to all safety, environment, quality and food safety requirements imposed either locally or globally by the company. In addition, the team provide the technical equipment and skills training to the R&D community to allow either independent or joint trial execution.

The team are responsible for managing the capital projects across R&D with a typical annual spend of €3 million on new equipment and infrastructure to develop products and processes to meet business needs. The team are also responsible for maintaining the pilot plant assets in an operational state, and modifying, adapting and improving existing processes and equipment whilst operating a safe system of work for all employees and external contractors.

This role reports into the Pilot Plant & Facilities Team Leader and the role is to plan and execute the delivery of facilities support to the Research & Development department in terms of managing general facilities works, purchasing, and the management of facilities administration duties. This role will also support the culture of safety in R&D by assisting Health & Safety administrative requirements. The candidate will ensure continuous process improvement for the R&D facility with accountability for the day-to-day management of the buildings within Banbury R&D. Additionally they will ensure that compliance with safety, and quality & environmental requirements during project development, project execution and commissioning is adhered to at all times.


  • College Education/ Apprenticeship/ relevant experience.
  • Facilities Management Qualification (BIFM/ IWFM) – preferred, however training can be provided to the suitable candidate.
  • PC literate in Microsoft applications
  • Project management including tendering, scoping and contractor selection.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
