Job Description

Business context of the role:

At Jacobs Douwe Egberts we’re inspired by our belief that it’s amazing what can happen over a cup of coffee. Here in the UK & Ireland we are known for leading coffee brands including Kenco, L’Or and Tassimo. With associates spread across 3 locations in Hurley (nr Maidenhead), Banbury and Dublin.

This position is based at our Manufacturing site in Banbury. The Operational Training Manager will build a world class training academy to ensure internal talent is developed within all areas of production and packing, enabling right skills in the right place at the right time.

About the role:

Ensuring the workforce is skilled to be able to operate production 24/7 365 days a year. The emphasis is on operational training (leadership training sits with the Talent Manager) and having accountability for the Apprenticeship scheme to enable future talent to be developed in JDE.

We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable on learning and development best practice in FMCG/manufacturing/engineering environment and can make learning even more engaging.

You’ll be leading a training team but also have a passion for delivery too.

Key responsibilities of the role:  

  • Lead the Apprentice Manager and Operational Trainers to have overall accountability that training is delivered in all aspects of production and packing with a quality experience, and within budget.
  • Set up a best in class training facility to enable the Banbury site to attract great talent and develop everything from Apprentices to Electricians and Forklift Truck Drivers. Maintain the relationship with the external training provider ensuring they are delivering a value-adding service and holding them to account with their SLAs
  • Oversee use of the apprenticeship levy to ensure the fund is spent to benefit the future site growth and ensure associates feel developed
  • Work with the site leaders to ensure their skills matrix is fulfilled to enable multiskilling across teams
  • Integral part of the ‘People Pillar’ (Organisation Pillar), Safety Pillar and Quality Pillar in the Manufacturing Operating System
  • Build and maintaining a strong performance culture through associate engagement and coaching
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team and associates to build a training programme that is fit for purpose and will ensure Banbury is fit for future growth
  • Work closely with the Talent Manager (who is responsible for leadership/indirect training) as a peer to share best practice
  • Consistently evaluate and report on the quality and standard of training provided
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement strategies

Qualifications

  • Experience of developing training courses and development programmes; ideally with a relevant training / instructor qualification
  • Ability to provide technical leadership to appropriate peer group
  • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills
  • Knowledge of training methodology
  • Significant operational experience
  • Significant assessment experience or equivalent experience
  • Appreciation of the quality standards needed in a food FMCG manufacturing environment
  • Dynamic self starter who can communicate well with those at all levels of the business, and make an impact with colleagues
  • Great eye for new content/sources of content from which our team can learn
  • Experience managing a vocational training facility would be highly desirable
