Job Description

As our Senior Consumer Scientist, you will deliver Consumer and Sensory product/appliance guidance (sensory or consumer work) to all Coffee or Tea Categories (e.g. cold coffee, tea, out of home business), in order to solve their challenges and guide the development of consumer relevant offers which helps JDE achieve growth and profit objectives.

You will do this by leading projects independently (medium-large sized projects) in terms of designing, planning, executing with an agency (consumer science) or internally (sensory), analyzing, problem solving, interpreting, reporting and dissemination of research output. 

Strong statistical knowledge, communication, negotiation skills & ability to solve complex problems are key to combine information from different sources both internal & external and to link consumer and sensory data into a compelling story.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you have a Master’s Degree in Food Technology / Food Science / Sensory Science or equivalent professional experience and at least 7 years of experience in Sensory and Consumer Science in FMCG, preferably in the food and/ or beverage industry.

Furthermore, you’ll bring

  • Strong knowledge of univariate and multi-variate statistics to run analysis and reporting and strong knowledge of sensory and consumer research toolbox such as discrimination testing, descriptive testing, product comparison, consumer research qualitative & quantitative
  • Leadership and the ability to influence, shape and execute large to medium size projects/Consumer research programs supporting the categories.  Ability to design projects to increase consumer understanding providing actionable output that feeds strategic decisions for business impact
  • Tangible impactful communications - able to tell a story from data and present in a way that impacts decisions, able to anticipate the needs of an audience and craft outputs to communicate within team as well as cross functional
  • Fluency in English

Where is the role based?

The role is based in Utrecht in the Netherlands with the Global R&D center of Jacobs Douwe Egberts. You will be required to travel to the UK where the rest of the Global R&D center is based and to the places where consumer research takes place to ensure quality of delivery. Expected travel is once or twice a month.
