Job Description

We are looking for a forward looking and innovative individual to join our Global R&D department in the role of Process Development Expert to enhance and grow our expertise of dairy and non-dairy creamer technology, especially in the area of Spray drying.  This is an opportunity to be a technical lead in an area of significant growth potential for the business, with a strong asset base in Asia to support this.  The role is to determine and investigate product or process solutions and support programmed that deliver understanding to unlock end to end value, co-create and enable new consumer experiences and protect future processing potential. You will lead or support projects up to process build & implementation and will be  the key knowledge holders in their fields.

More specifically, you will

  • Manage multiple medium-large (scale & complexity) technology projects in parallel with a  high level of autonomy.
  • Play a pro-active role (as consultant or team member) in the implementation of technology project results in category projects
  • Initiate, coordinate and participate in building and maintaining a global network of experts and suppliers in relevant science and technology areas. Scout related new external developments & initiate follow-up.
  • Review & understand the patent landscape relevant to key technology area: translate into identified opportunities Contributes multiple patent opportunities/yr.
  • Be a technical coach for junior team members, help them to develop their scientific skills and contribute to their performance evaluation and development. Possibly supervise junior staff or interns.

Jacobs Douwe Egberts Research and Development (R&D) is part of the Global JDE organization. R&D is the major contributor to the development of innovative coffee and tea products and is constantly optimizing the product portfolio. The focus of R&D is on building technology platforms, new products, portfolio renovations and productivity initiatives.

Qualifications

To be successful in this challenging role, we need you to bring a Chemical Engineering or Food Science/Technology degree and a minimum of 5+ years (with 10+ preferred) experience in dairy/non-dairy drying/powder science/engineering. You have experience in both Manufacturing/Operations and R&D environments and a track record of driving change within dairy or non-dairy creamer-based food or beverage systems

This role is base in Utrecht and regular travel is required to different global manufacturing and/or R&D locations, (depending on project needs) so ability to travel outside of Europe and be away from the home office is essential.
