Job Description

Business context of the role:

The Jacobs Douwe Egberts Research and Development Center (R&D) is part of the Global JDE organization. R&D is the major contributor for developing Innovative coffee and tea products and is constantly optimizing the product portfolio. The focus of R&D is both on building Technology Platforms (TP) and on New Product Development (NPD). Moreover, some disciplines within R&D have a strong involvement in JDE business and are leading in decisions to be made. Projects are mostly carried out together with Marketing, Operation and Purchase Departments.

About the role:

The supervisor provides supervision of workload, workforce, data quality and coordination of analytical test within the On Demand facility based in Banbury focusing on products from the Single Serve and Professional Brewer Development areas of JDE.  This role is a combination of standalone responsibilities and supervising a team of up to 20-30 brew testers. The supervisor will take account for the quality of the work conducted by the team to agreed timings and quality in execution of key project tasks as required to deliver the overall business goal.

Key responsibilities of the role:  

  • Supervising and motivating a team of brew testers – ensuring supervision is appropriate, actively monitoring brew testing progress, training and re-training as and when required.
  • Learn, test & train brewing procedures and methodologies involved (from machine to analytical testing)
  • Perform brewing testing.
  • Maintaining an effective team to meet business requirement.
  • Meeting deadlines agreed with the manager through effective communication on work progress.
  • Effective time management on workload scheduled and support of brew testing procedure where required.
  • Can demonstrate great technical rigour and train of all brewing methods.
  • Can provide a clear handover notes to manager or delegated personnel.
  • Great attention to detail in data analysis and recommendations, based on output.
  • Take care of administration and arching of results correctly.
  • Ensure all safe systems of work are adhered to always and well communicated to brew testing team.
  • Ensure all relevant safety devices and protective personal equipment are used accordingly.
  • Report any accidents, incidents and concerns. 
  • Take care of maintaining daily laboratory consumables and ordering.
  • Responsible for operating / maintaining simple equipment and facilities. Assuring good laboratory practices with respect to maintenance and hygiene and good manufacturing practice.
  • Examples of required testing include but not limited to: review and communicate project results and conformance of finished product to specification

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in any science background if preferred.                                                      
  • Must have experience of managing a large team of external personnel or agency workers.
  • Must have excellent data handling skills with experience of working in a data driven environment that required a great attention to detail.
  • Must have a flexible work approach and be able to adapt to changing environments.
  • Must be a strong communicator able to lead and inspire a team.                                                                             
  • Ideally you will have laboratory experience in the food industry
  • Proven record of being an effective and respected supervisor of a team.
  • A logical, rigorous and scientific approach to problem solving independently.
