Job Description

An ODP will provide high standards of skilled care and support during each phase of a patient’s perioperative care - anaesthetic, surgical and recovery. The ODP will assist the patient prior to surgery and provide individualised care communicating and working effectively within the surgical team. The ODP will additionally prepare all the necessary instruments and equipment for the operations, including microscopes, lasers and endoscopes. The ODP will act as a link between the surgical team and other parts of the theatre and hospital. The ODP will additionally undertake the role of the Central Sterilisation Services and provide sterilisation capability for the entire hospital. 

Qualifications

  • Completion of appropriate Operating Department Practitioner training (Degree or Diploma). 
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or another national/international regulatory equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post registration experience practicing as a ODP. 
  • Successful completion of the Advanced Life Support (ALS/ACLS) course or equivalent.
