Job Description

Role summary:

The Flight Nurse is an essential part of the multi-disciplined medical team, responsible for administering critical care to seriously ill and injured patients in flight.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing care related to critical care transportation and flight medicine
  • Responsible for total patient care including taking vital signs, setting and administering medication
  • Assisting the physician with procedures and treatments
  • Responsible for careful assessment and monitoring of patient vital signs watching for sudden or subtle changes in the medical condition that might require emergency intervention
  • Ensuring that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly
  • Monitoring and administering medication and intravenous infusions
  • Maintaining the patient’s clinical records;

Qualifications

  • A first level degree as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of three (3) years’ postgraduate continuous progressive clinical experience in general nursing, intensive care, emergency medicine, and health administration
  • Postgraduate training in Intensive/ Critical Care Nursing/ Anesthesia/Emergency Care Nursing with a minimum of three (3) years’ post qualification experience.
  • Training in Aviation Nursing
  • Certification in PHTLS (or equivalent) and ACLS

Additional Information

Rotation of 8 weeks on-duty followed by 4 weeks off-duty
