Job Description

This role is responsible for all primary and emergency health and medical care management of the crew on board the vessel, including the maintenance and inventory management of all drugs, consumables and medical equipment as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow & enforce all client and Supplier medical procedures and protocols.
  • Provide onsite emergency medical care 24 hours per day in line with Iqarus MSOs
  • Develop and maintain stock levels of all medications, including safe custody of controlled drugs and maintenance of controlled drugs register, in accordance with Iqarus MSO
  • Management of clinical waste
  • Ensure all medical equipment and gases are functional, regularly inspected and maintained, including calibration of required items
  • Undertake accurate clinical examinations and maintain individual medical records for all crew on board.
  • Safely and appropriately prescribe medications within the client's pre-approved modules, Iqarus Medics Manual and Operating Procedure. Refer to the British National Formulary (BNF), and when necessary seeking advice from Topside support.
  • Report to Suppliers' Topside Consulting Physician and Global Medical Advisor (GMA) when required.
  • Diagnose and manage routine medical conditions and minor injuries.
  • Liaise with local medical authorities and health care facilities.
  • Keep accurate records of pharmacy inventory and ensure that stock levels are maintained to the required level and post-use checks are carried out
  • Follow up on medical certificate validity and credibility, and report non-conformances to the Master.
  • Promote and monitor a variety of programmes including Healthy Eating, corporate wellness and health awareness
  • First Aid Instruction - training sessions for first-aiders and stretcher bearers.
  • Inspect health and hygiene of clinic facilities and other areas of the vessel as directed, to provide assistance in identifying health and hygiene needs on a weekly basis.
  • Administer drug and alcohol testing as required by client's Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  • Provide support in the health risk assessment (HRA) process at least annually covering geographical location temperatures and endemic disease in conjunction with the Party Chief and Master.
  • Ensure timely and adequate reporting in the HSEQ reporting system (UniSea) and Supplier’s medical records system.
  • Report medical risks and health issues to the Master if there is a clear non-conformance.
  • Assist with maintenance of crew database including immunisation and vaccinations, medicals, HUET and BOSIET, firefighting etc.

 

Qualifications

  • Eligible to work, or resident, in the UK
  • Registered Nurse (Adult), with at least 3 years’ post-graduation experience within one or more of: A&E, ICU, HDU, OOH’s Service, ANP, Medical or Surgical Assessment Unit, OR;
  • Royal Navy Medical Assistant (at Leading Hand or above), OR;
  • Royal Marines Medical Assistance (at Corporal or above), OR;
  • British Army Combat Medical Technician Class 1 (at Corporal or above), OR;
  • Royal Air Force Medical Assistant (at Corporal or above), OR;
  • Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service Medical Technician, OR;
  • HCPC Registered Paramedic with significant experience in one or more of: Rapid Response, Emergency Care Practitioner, OOH’s Service
