Job Description

To maintain a state of medical emergency preparedness and provide routine health care to all personnel onboard assigned installation/vessel/work site in accordance with Iqarus Medic Standing Orders (MSO) and at all times abiding by a code of conduct and principles of medical confidentiality as per legislative requirements.

Medical and Patient Care

  • Diagnose and initiate treatment of illness on-site in accordance with the Iqarus MSO, including initiation of prescription medication in consultation with the Topside Doctor; this may include acute medical and surgical conditions requiring immediate skilled treatment
  • Provide initial emergency response, resuscitation and stabilisation of critically ill or injured (trauma) patients, employing ALS/ATLS emergency medical protocols
  • Provide onsite emergency medical care 24 hours per day in line with Iqarus MSOs
  • Communicate and provide details to the Topside Doctor for the management and treatment of medevac cases provide appropriate referral documentation for injured or ill personnel requiring medevac and liaise with logistics personnel to arrange safe transfer onshore to receive further medical treatment
  • Management of clinical waste
  • Ensure all medical equipment and gases are functional, regularly inspected and maintained, including calibration of required items
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records and ill health / incident reporting using Iqarus and client recording systems in accordance with the Iqarus MSO
  • Maintain complete and accurate written and computerised records, reports, statistics and referral letters relating to all clinical work and ensure the security and confidentiality of information under the requirements of the Data Protection Act (2000), Access to Medical Records Act (1990) and NMC Code of Conduct (Nurses)
  • Deliver Health Promotion as per clients request from Iqarus. This will include routine presentations and maintaining an informative Health Promotion Board
  • Adhere to the Company’s health promotion goals, for example, The Healthy Working Lives award programme, and encourage healthy living by providing regular education on lifestyle issues to the installation/site personnel
  • Provide and participate in education and training programmes relevant to occupational health, as per site plan and maintain appropriate records
  • Participate in health surveillance programmes for employees who may be at risk, in line with the Company’s occupational health policies and procedures and maintain suitable and sufficient records
  • Assist in the co-ordination and training of the installation’s manual handling assessments, DSE, noise, face fit testing, Hand Arm Vibration (HAV), Legionella, Asbestos and hydrocarbon awareness training
  • Be capable of carrying out qualitative face fit testing for personnel who require re-assessment and need to wear respiratory protective equipment and maintain appropriate records
  • Assist in the planning of emergency and mass casualty triage procedures to ensure an appropriate first-line medical response to an emergency situation
  • Follow Iqarus’ annual First Aid Training plans, conducting routine non certificated first aid  training  with  the  First-Aiders,  and  casualty  handling  with  Stretcher  Teams  using  the OH provider first-aid training template
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site specific occupational health improvement plans as required by the installation or Client HSE Department and ensure satisfactory close out of actions in a timely manner
  • Act as the legionella focal point completing potable water testing and take routine water samples for chemical, legionella, hydrocarbon and microbiological analysis as per plan. Maintain compliance of Client pot water procedures and maintain accurate records
  • Complete  regular  hygiene  inspections  of  the  galley  and  accommodation  using  the  Catering Contractor’s or Iqarus’ template. In accordance with Client procedures, maintain records on site and regularly review catering company food safety management systems
  • Be capable of assessing the risks from substances hazardous to health
  • Undertake OGUK medicals and complete fitness assessments for Offshore Emergency Response Personnel as per Client requirements
  • Identify potential issues between an individual’s medical assessment and their fitness to work and manage appropriately
  • Organise and/or participate in health promotion and protection exercises, such as immunisation programmes or medical assessment according to Client’s policy and maintain appropriate records
  • Provide and participate in education and training programmes relevant to occupational health and maintain appropriate records
  • Assist in the investigation of diseases that are reportable under RIDDOR and Company policy and take appropriate action with the installation’s Health, Safety and Environment Adviser, (HSE)
  • Participate and support installation/site management, in the investigation, reporting and analysis of incidents
  • Monitor progress and implementation of occupational health corrective actions arising from site related incidents
  • Order, maintain and control adequate stocks of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals in the sickbay, as per the Medics’ Manual, the Company’s drug formulary and/or as directed by the Medical Advisor
  • Operate all medical emergency equipment listed within the Medics’ Manual. Conduct a regular function test and record findings
  • Complete  regular  inspection  and  maintenance tasks  on  the  condition  of  medical  emergency equipment, as per the OH Provider’s Standard Operating Procedures and the planned maintenance system requirements
  • Ensure all equipment calibration checks and servicing are up to date and maintain records
  • Ensure appropriate distribution and storage of medical supplies around the installation and sickbay and correct disposal of clinical waste
  • Undertake  housekeeping  activities  including  but  not  limited  to  re-stocking  and  cleaning  of equipment, e.g. monthly defrosting of drug fridge
  • Adhere to the Company’s health promotion goals, for example, The Healthy Working Lives award programme, and encourage healthy living by providing regular education on lifestyle issues to the installation/site personnel
  • Act as the noise competent person offshore, completing planned dosimetry and noise surveys as advised by the onshore noise specialist NEMS plan
  • Perform drug and alcohol testing on installation personnel as instructed by the Offshore Installations Manager (OIM)

HSEQ and Administration

  • Ensure compliance with  Client’s current Health,  Safety and  Environmental practices  and procedures
  • Contribute to the development of standards, policies and procedures for the management of the health and wellbeing of the workforce
  • Assist  in  Health,  Safety  Environmental  (HSE)  briefs  and  inductions  for  all  new  installation personnel
  • Contribute to the installation’s HSE meetings and Safety Rep. Committee meetings and maintain appropriate records
  • Conduct weekly non certificated first aid training with the First-Aiders, and casualty handling with Stretcher Teams
  • Attend scheduled   Medic teleconference and, where applicable, attend any Annual  Medic Forums
  • Complete the End of Trip Report using Iqarus’ Template

Promotion of OH Provider Services

  • Ensure Iqarus and Client’s are represented in a professional manner
  • Ensure a Continuous Quality Improvement culture and system is maintained
  • Participate in Client’s and Iqarus’ information campaigns on environmental issues, personal protection, diseases and health

Additional Responsibilities

  • Achieve relevant objectives/KPIs as outlined by direct Manager
  • Complete further training courses relating to the role as required by Iqarus and/or Client’s
  • Develop annual training plans and conduct non certificated first aid training with the Medical Teams, and casualty handling with Stretcher Teams
  • Undertake a quarterly self-audit using the Iqarus audit tool
  • Submit a ‘satisfaction card’ to the OIM for signing and return the signed card to the respective Iqarus contact at the end of each quarter
  • Work within and promote all Iqarus policies, procedures and corporate values
  • Be aware of Iqarus OH&S policies, practices and procedures and actively participate in the ongoing development and enhancement of these important areas of the business

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Eligible to work, or resident, in the UK
  • HSE Offshore Medic Certificate
  • Registered Nurse (Adult), with at least 3 years’ post-graduation experience within one or more of: A&E, ICU, HDU, OOH’s Service, ANP, Medical or Surgical Assessment Unit 
    OR
  • Royal Navy Medical Assistant (at Leading Hand or above), OR; Royal Marines Medical Assistance (at Corporal or above), OR; British Army Combat Medical Technician Class 1 (at Corporal or above), OR; Royal Air Force Medical Assistant (at Corporal or above), OR; Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service Medical Technician,
    OR
  • HCPC Registered Paramedic with significant experience in one or more of: Rapid Response, Emergency Care Practitioner, OOH’s Service
  • BOSIET/FOET (c/w CA-EBS)
  • OGUK Medical
  • MIST
