Job Description

Reporting to the Physician Assistant, Iqarus is seeking qualified paramedics with international experience who are capable of providing both preventative and emergency medical providers in a contingent environment - based within the enhanced security zone in Kabul. The place of performance for this contract in Kabul, Afghanistan and the ideal candidate will have experience providing medical services in austere environments. Potential applicants must be willing to live and work in the region for the period of performance. The duties and responsibilities listed herein are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide emergency services and care for injured patients
  • Record patient history and personal information
  • Administer basic treatment (change dressings, draw blood, measure vital signs, etc.)
  • Assess a patient’s condition, determine a path of treatment, record treatment details, as well as response to treatment
  • Update Physician Assistant regarding patient status throughout treatment process
  •  Assist Physician Assistant with examinations
  •  Conduct blood and urinalysis for medical diagnosis or workplace drug testing
  •  Clearly translate medical knowledge to patients and management personnel
  •   Maintain a sanitized workplace and detailed inventory of medications and medical equipment

Qualifications

  • Experience as a first responder, preferably in remote and austere locations
  • U.S State or National Registry Paramedic (EMT-P) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and patient documentation skills
  • Must be able to work effectively under stress and pressure
  • Ability to manage workloads effectively, prioritize tasks, and effectively triage patients
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel

Required Education

  • Completion of a post-secondary paramedic training program. Attendance at continuing education and training classes to stay current with emergency medical advancements and best practices is a plus.

Experience

  •  A minimum of five (5) years’ experience administering first aid and emergency medical care to ill or injured individuals in pre-hospital settings
  • Security Vetting: Must be able to qualify for an MRPT security vetting designation.
  • Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with all levels of employees and vendors. Ability to speak Dari or Pashto is a plus.
