Job Description

The role of the Recover/ICU/HDU nurses is to care for patients who are critically ill and at high risk of life-threatening health problems. They will assist in the management, care and safe use of specialist equipment e.g. life support machine, endotracheal tubes, artificial ventilation, invasive monitoring, inotropic therapy, paralysing agents and sedation. 

Qualifications

 

Completion of appropriate nurse training (Degree or Diploma). Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), or another national/international regulatory equivalent. Minimum of 3 years’ experience practicing as a theatre/ICU/HDU nurse. 

  • Experienced in all aspects of theatre nursing, 
  • Preoperative (pre-assessment) 
  • Anaesthetics (assisting the anesthetist) 
  • Surgical phase 
  • Additional qualifications in theatre nursing desirable e.g. City & Guilds 752, recognized diploma or module in theatre nursing or equivalent recognized training. 
  • Experienced in managing ventilated and non-ventilated patients independently. 
  • Completion of additional ICU courses such as English National Board, 100 General Intensive Care course or equivalent. 
  • Successful completion of Immediate Life Support (ILS)/ Advanced life Support (ALS) or equivalent. 
  • Completion of additional training in an HDU course such as the Acutely Ill Adult and High Dependency Nursing course or equivalent is desirable.

 

Additional Information

Rotation: 5 weeks oniste/ 5 weeks offsite
