Job Description

Primary Function of Position

We are looking for a Data Engineer to build and own the data foundations that power machine learning and analytics. This role is focused on designing scalable data platforms, organizing high-quality datasets, and enabling ML scientists to efficiently develop, train, and deploy models.

You will work closely with ML scientists, data scientists, and software engineers to ensure data is reliable, discoverable, and production ready.

Essential Job Duties

  • Data Platform & Pipelines
    • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines for batch and streaming data
    • Own data ingestion, transformation, validation, and storage across multiple sources
    • Optimize data systems for performance and reliability
    • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline failures and data quality issues
  • Data Organization & Quality
    • Structure and organize datasets to support ML training, evaluation, and inference
    • Define and maintain schemas, metadata, and data documentation
    • Implement data quality checks, validation frameworks, and monitoring
    • Support data versioning, lineage, and reproducibility
  • ML Enablement
    • Partner closely with ML scientists to understand data requirements
    • Build and maintain feature pipelines and ML-ready datasets
    • Support ML workflows by ensuring consistent, high-quality data inputs
    • Enable smooth handoff from experimentation to production
  • Collaboration & Standards
    • Collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering teams to align data solutions with business needs
    • Establish best practices for data modeling, pipeline design, and governance
    • Contribute to architectural decisions for data and ML platforms

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Experience building and maintaining production data pipelines
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS or GCP)
  • Familiarity with data warehousing and lakehouse architectures
  • Solid understanding of how data supports machine learning workflows

Required Education and Training

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus but not required

  • Experience supporting ML platforms or MLOps workflows
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools (Ex: Airflow)
  • Experience in SQL, Docker, and Linux
  • Experience with big data technologies
  • Experience with feature stores and real-time data pipelines
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and access controls
  • Experience with image and video processing
