Job Description

The Director of Product Management, Customer Insights supports Intuitive’s Digital product roadmap strategy and product lifecycle management for Intuitive’s family of digital products. This role supports multiple Intuitive hardware platforms and provides direct feedback in the form of product needs and product requirements to platforms that incorporate features related to pre-operative preparation and learning, intraoperative feature access and collaboration, and post-operative data consumption for a breadth of clinical users and hospital administrators.

The Digital Clinical Insights team serves as the key interface between users and customers, clinically focused teams across Intuitive hardware platforms, and solution owners in the Data and Digital Business Unit. The Product Management team represents the voice of the customer (business needs) and the voice of the user (user needs) on behalf of the broader Product Development team.

The Director of Product Management, Customer Insights has an in depth understanding of the customer-facing features of the da Vinci system and ION systems, including clinical applications and enterprise data products, as well as a developed understanding of pricing and implementation requirements for digital products to hospital systems.

What you’ll do

  • Support Intuitive’s Digital product roadmap strategy and product lifecycle management for Intuitive’s family of digital products across multiple Intuitive hardware platforms.
  • Serve as the key interface between users and customers, clinically focused teams across hardware platforms, and solution owners in the Data and Digital Business Unit, providing direct feedback in the form of product needs and product requirements.
  • Manage the product roadmap by using qualitative and quantitative market research methods, direct customer interviews and observations to develop insights that inform the product roadmap.
  • Oversee teams that make product and feature proposals and write market requirements and product requirements, and refine requirements with feedback from customers and internal teams including sales, M.D.’s, and clinical development engineering.
  • Shepherd products and multiple complex projects through the Evaluation, Product Development, and Design control stages in coordination with product development and product management counterparts from cross-functional teams, weighing the Desirability, Viability, and Feasibility of the proposed solution.
  • Develop long term objectives for integrated solutions on the multiport system by managing the product roadmap and product lifecycle.
  • Develop business justification for recommendations and gain alignment on prioritization across key stakeholders for in-bound and out-bound product development programs that cross business units.
  • Facilitate tradeoffs with design teams and product management teams from various functions.
  • Continue to foster the growth of this function while building and developing a team of Product Managers and people leaders: effectively attract, develop, train, and retain key staff to build a high performing team of product managers.
  • Develop and track effective goals and objectives for the team, aligning to business unit and corporate objectives; hold the team accountable for results.
  • Understand competitive, emerging, and complementary technology and its potential impact on Intuitive’s product lines.
  • Work with the product engineering and business development teams to evaluate new technologies and prioritize the new business development pipeline.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring

  • Must be a highly passionate individual that notices and cares about design details and the users’ experience with the product.
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience and a bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within Medical Device Product Management; experience with digital health products preferred.
  • Experience defining and managing market and product requirements for medical devices.
  • Extensive experience building teams and mentoring and guiding junior staff.
  • Experience with minimally invasive surgical products, including capital equipment, is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of minimally invasive surgery and diagnostic markets is highly preferred.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with proven ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to ensure product success and ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority, including the ability to bridge communication between engineering, design, marketing, sales, and customers.
  • Ability to work in surgical labs and operating rooms is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
