Job Description

Primary Function of the Position 

Manage the Equipment Maintenance department for Intuitive’s manufacturing operation in the Mexicali sites.  Primary functional responsibilities include the areas of Corrective Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance and Calibration to deliver equipment maintenance services that meet quality specifications, achieve, or exceed service level and cost targets while ensuring employees’ safety, complying with applicable regulations and company policies. This role will work directly with site leadership team to align on goals and objectives.

Under indirect supervision works with the Sr Director of Manufacturing to establish short to midterm strategies to assure maintenance and calibration standards, employee engagement, culture deployment, talent management, and continuous improvement processes.

This role required collaboration with the local departments and at Corporate offices to manage the required support within and outside of their organization to achieve flawless operation execution. The Senior Equipment Maintenance Manager needs to participate, support, and sometimes lead the introduction of new process, new products and new technical platforms targeted for his areas of influence.

This role requires to identify, report, and escalate properly any situation that may have a potential impact on company metrics and/or reputation.

Essential Job Duties

  • Lead a team of supervisors, engineers and technicians with the skills required to provide day to day support for addressing equipment issues that arise during the operational shifts and meeting any regulation requirements within our QMS.
  • Department Goals Deployment (i.e. Hoshin Kanri (HK) X3/X4) aligned to Site Overall Goals & Objectives (X2), measure department metrics (KPIs) to monitor performance and coordinates actions to ensure improvements.
  • Organize the team to provide unplanned corrective maintenance of the equipment to ensure it performs as intended across all lines and shifts, as well as to carry out all required Preventive Maintenance and Calibration (PMC) activities.
  • Develop and maintain resource allocation process to support equipment maintenance operation in alignment with the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) and Long Range Model (LRM).
  • Establish, manage and enhance a set of equipment maintenance key performance indicators (KPI’s), including Mean Time To Assist (MTTA), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), and regular monitor and report these metrics to the Equipment Engineering and Operations teams.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance safety, quality, cost efficiency, and delivery performance.
  • Responsible for department budget planning (HC, Supplies, equipment purchases) and expense management to meet or exceed financial targets.
  • Responsible for tracking capital equipment for financial purposes.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to update the minimum and maximum targets for spares parts required to maintain the factory operations. Ensure the list’s effectiveness and completeness to prevent line downtime due to missing spares.
  • Identify, create and/or update Equipment event notifications and any related documentation to meet standards and regulation required by our QMS.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure operations are accurate and consistent.
  • Mentor and develop team members through tactical problem solving, define clear performance objectives, and translate challenges into growth opportunities to drive team engagement to meet department and organizational goals

  • Complete Performance and feedback process (C.I.P and MERIT) per Company guidelines to direct reports

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience 

  • Minimum of 5 years of people management experience in an Equipment Maintenance Manager position.
  • Outstanding management and communication skills.
  • Experience with maintenance and calibration activities on electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Experience with maintenance and calibration activities on automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) implementation
  • Excellent creative problem-solving skills.
  • English: 85% minimum (Written and spoken).

Required Education and Training 

  • Engineering BS degree
  • Must be computer literate with experience using, Windows, Excel, Word, Power Point.

Working Conditions 

  • Required to work on site.

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Experience in Medical Device industry and knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices preferred.
  • Working knowledge with TPM.
  • Working knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Experience with calibration processes and standards.
