Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

Data Privacy and Protection laws and regulations are evolving across the globe.  The regulatory and operational impact to businesses is increasing in complexity and presenting new compliance challenges.  Intuitive’s Global Privacy and Data Protection team helps develop and implement data privacy and protection safeguards, controls, and regulatory requirements into our products and services.  The team supports Intuitive’s mission by promoting transparent, thoughtful, and deliberate collection, use, and dissemination of data in ethical, practical, and legally compliant ways.

Reporting to the Managing Principal, US/HIPAA Privacy team, the Data Privacy Intern will gain experience specifically in Data Privacy Operations at Intuitive. While this role will have regular contact with the Privacy Legal team, this is not a legal internship opportunity. This operations internship will expose an intern to several key areas of the Global Privacy and Data Protection program including:

  • Data Privacy Operations and Engineering
  • Third Party Relationships
  • Training and Guidance
  • Privacy Breach Management
  • Regulatory Privacy and Data Protection

Roles & Responsibilities:
The Data Privacy Intern will have an opportunity to learn about multiple privacy program functions such as privacy by design, third party risk management, consent management and data flow mapping, privacy breach responsibilities, and the complex realm between privacy and security.  Internship activities may include conducting research into implicating regulation (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, etc.), participating in special projects, learning new technologies, etc.  The internship experience will culminate in an official capstone project that will be documented and used by the team.

Qualifications

University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
  • Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program with a preferred focus on privacy or information security [e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Pre-Law, or related].  PhD or other doctoral candidates also encouraged to apply.

    • EU General Data Protection Regulation
    • HIPAA and healthcare privacy
    • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

We provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants and employees, and prohibit discrimination and harassment of any type, without regard to race, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, color, age, religion, protected veteran or disability status, genetic information or any other status protected under federal, state, or local applicable laws.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
