Job Description

A Senior DevSecOps Engineer that works with cloud technologies to deploy and maintain applications in a secure production environment.

Our successful candidate must be proficient with creating automated CI/CD processes using the best security practices and also strong documentation skills. You will work with various technologies such as Git, Linux, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL. Our  ideal candidate will also have software development experience using Python, preferably Flask.

This opportunity offers you a chance to use cutting-edge technology to help the Department of Defense provide and maintain the infrastructure used by the provisioning application within JEDI, the first enterprise-level Defense-wide cloud environment within the Department. The provisioning application is a critical piece in JEDI’s operation, and this role will be integral to its success. The candidate will help to establish the environments, build and deployment processes, and provide support for production operations for this application. The candidate must be able to document and automate this process.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and automate the build and deployment processes for the provisioning application, using security and cloud best practices

  • Apply software and application development expertise to ensure the provisioning application is deployed

  • Educate the teams on the adoption of DevSecOps best practices and tooling, and support those practices and tools

  • Assist teams with cloud environment issues related to performance, configuration, security, or otherwise

  • Be a member of a team providing 24x7 production support for the provisioning application, coordinating efforts with other team members to resolve issues quickly

  • Perform root cause analysis for each issue, escalating as necessary, documenting issues in a tracking system

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of JEDI Cloud and DoD Policies

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation related to DevSecOps work

  • Assist coworkers and other team members when necessary

  • Assist in the monitoring, logging and alerting of production environments and other issues related to the provisioning tool’s function

  • Help create cloud infrastructure in a cost-efficient manner

  • Help analyze production usage data and be able to document and convey insights, analysis, and reports as needed by management related to production environments

  • Support analysis and preparatory activities for the migration of applications to a new cloud environment

  • Special projects and additional duties as assigned

  • Briefings to the government as well as other key stakeholders as necessary

Qualifications

Required Qualifications / Skills:

  • Currently holding a TS SCI clearance

  • 10+ years related experience in DevSecOps

  • 4+ years deploying applications to Azure or other cloud environments, utilizing respective best practices and challenges, and standing up CI/CD processes

  • Strong experience using and administrating Kubernetes and Docker

  • Experience administering Linux/Unix (RedHat or CentOS preferred) from the command line and using shell scripting languages such as bash

  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools (Terraform or Ansible preferred)

  • Experience with software development in languages like Python and JavaScript

  • Experience working with logging, monitoring, and alerting in production environments

  • Past experience administering a database (PostgreSQL preferred)

  • Powerful analytical and problem-solving skills – including the ability to develop solutions in new and creative ways

  • Good organization skills

  • Ability to work both independently (with direction) and with a team

  • Exhibits a passion for DevSecOps and keeping current on the latest security practices

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong ability to brief senior executives with little notice

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a relevant field. Master’s Degree in a relevant field preferred

  • Azure and/or AWS certifications

  • Knowledge of the DoD is strongly preferred
