We are looking for an experienced AI Tech Lead to join Intertec and play a key role in delivering advanced AI-driven solutions for one of our strategic partners in the financial services sector. This position combines technical leadership with hands-on AI engineering, focusing on designing production-grade intelligent systems that solve complex real-world challenges.

The position

Our client specializes in Vertical AI, they don't just use generic AI; they build specific models (like their proprietary FinLLM) tailored for the highly regulated UK financial services sector.

They primarily serve large banks and wealth managers (including Lloyds Banking Group and Nationwide) through two flagship products:

• An AI "co-pilot" for financial advisers that joins client calls, automates complex administrative tasks, and generates suitability reports.
• A compliance and quality assurance (QA) platform that monitors 100% of customer interactions to identify risks, detect vulnerable customers, and ensure "Consumer Duty" compliance.

We are looking for someone to join a new team that’s forming now, and lead it from an AI perspective, and need someone with solid experience in building and maintaining AI Solutions, not just putting a wrapper on existing AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and implementation of sophisticated AI systems, moving away from simple API calls towards bespoke, engineered solutions.
• Audit and improve current AI features for performance, accuracy, and scalability.
• Drive the development of greenfield AI projects from data ingestion through to model deployment.
• Provide high-level guidance to the engineering team on best practices for AI development and deployment.

• Proven experience designing and deploying custom AI/ML models rather than relying solely on third-party AI services.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar.
• Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), embeddings, retrieval systems, or NLP-based solutions.
• Hands-on experience with MLOps practices, model deployment pipelines, monitoring, and performance optimization.
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with graph technologies, knowledge graphs, or graph-based machine learning approaches is highly desirable.
• Strong architectural thinking combined with hands-on implementation capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions across cross-functional teams.
• Experience in leading technical teams, directly mentoring and managing team members.
