Job Description
The Payroll Specialist handles payroll related functions for all U.S. divisions of Intersand. This role maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data - while also checking the accuracy of timesheets, computing wages, and ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time. They also maintain employee data, address payroll-related questions, and complete any other tasks necessary for monitoring and overseeing Intersand's U.S. payroll process.
Duties Include:
- Perform weekly, special and annual payroll activities for all hourly, salaried, part-time and temporary employees of the US Divisions for Intersand in a manufacturing environment using biometric and punch card time clocks in conjunction with a third-party payroll system (ADP)
- Administrative role in ADP timeclocks, enrolling new employees and ensuring smooth and continuous operation
- Edit and approve any/all timecards as needed when appropriate Supervisors are unable to do so
- Address payroll/timekeeping issues, correct errors and troubleshoot problems to ensure all employees are paid correctly
- Process garnishments, wage attachments, and tax levies for payroll deductions
- Terminate employees in third-party payroll system, ensuring all company and plan policies are followed
- Generate, format and distribute required or requested payroll-related reports
- Prepare, submit, and fund weekly retirement plan contributions
- Champion payroll initiatives such as direct deposit and access to online pay statements
- Process and approve payroll for temporary employees for all temp agencies
- Troubleshoot, research, and resolve any issues that may arise among the temp agencies’ payrolls
- Ensure new hires have completed and submitted all required documentation; advise HR of missing items to be collected from employees
- Reconcile and approve benefit-related AP invoices
- Track and report employee paid time off
- Track and ensure receipt of all benefit premiums owed and paid by employees on leave
- Assist in audits as needed and able
- Other miscellaneous duties as required
Qualifications
- Education, Training and Experience
- High School Diploma required
- Associate's degree or higher in Accounting or related field preferred
- 2+ years multi-state payroll experience required
- Certified Payroll Professional credentials required
- Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities:

- Work and Physical Requirements:
- This job operates within a manufacturing/warehouse/shipping facility with a controlled climate in the office area, temperatures vary in the warehouse area
- Ability to regularly function in a typical office environment and operate related equipment – computer, copier, telephone, etc., as well as low risk manufacturing environment – able to observe and get around equipment
- Must be able to talk, sit for long periods of time, listen, and speak clearly
- Ability to walk short distances, climb stairs, grab or reach for items
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs. if needed
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
- This position does not have any Supervisory responsibilities
- No overnight or long-distance travel expected for this position
