Job Description

Position
Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs, the Student Affairs Campus Engagement Specialist is a contributing member to the overall management of graduate international and domestic student success at ITU. The successful candidate is a higher education oriented professional committed to fostering student-centered programs that deliver exceptional services beginning with graduate students’ enrollment and continuing across their life span beyond the university. We are seeking a dynamic individual with an entrepreneurial spirit of a Silicon Valley startup matched with the passion towards building effective relationships and providing innovative solutions in developing a global 21 st Century high-tech workforce. This position is responsible for assisting in the development and promotion of a comprehensive suite of programs and auxiliary services driving student and alumni success.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in higher education, student programming, event management, strategic communications, or other relevant field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in college environment and/or corporate, nonprofit, or industry setting. Paraprofessional experience in student advising, government, campus activities and student life may be considered.
Understanding of professional development and experiential learning activities for students, including knowledge of how to manage co-curricular programs, which provide meaningful outcomes for students.
Knowledge of best practices in events, marketing communications, correspondence, and appropriate matters of etiquette in various settings.
 

Demonstrate excellent written and communication capabilities, strong public speaking skills, and the political acumen to develop positive, ongoing relationships with a multitude of diverse stakeholders.
Skilled in the use of computers and computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet, databases, presentations and social media. Demonstrated experience and creative eye in creating promotional materials such as flyers, products or digital media.
Strong project management and communication skills. Ability to manage time effectively, juggling multiple projects simultaneously, handling multiple assignments under pressure with interruptions, and meet deadlines. Attention to detail with an ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Manage and engage in responsible fiscal stewardship, including the monitoring, analyzing and reporting on student activities and other programming expenditures.
Evidence of understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, and sexual orientation of graduate students, faculty, and staff.
Commitment to supporting, empowering, and retaining a rich cultural and linguistically diverse international and domestic student body.

Understanding of the policies, practices, and procedures involved in departmental operation in a university environment, including knowledge of business and industry opportunities.


Work Hours: Non-traditional work hours will be required to accommodate the nature of evening and weekend student attendance, availability, and program delivery.


Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity and flexibility to take on multiple roles within university student services.
Knowledgeable professional conveying ethical standards related to student programming, including and not limited to contracts and relevant legal consideration.
Skilled in large-scale event planning, research methodology, donor development, and/or grant writing.

Working knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite preferred), customer relationship management software, social media tools and best practices, web content management systems, and writing and editing for the web.
Intermediate to advanced experience in productivity tools, email, Internet platforms, database management, analysis, and report writing and basic video or live chat technologies.

Additional Information

Duties & Responsibilities
Liaison with internal stakeholders, campus partners, and external vendors in securing a comprehensive program of extra and co-curricular student activities and resources that enhance the graduate student experience; covering a broad range of topics including cultural and social diversity, housing, financial literacy, veterans affairs, family/childcare, health & wellness, recreational activities, community service, life skills, career development, and alumni services.
Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of campus signature events such as orientation, commencement, and ITU Presents. Support extra and co-curricular events, meetings, seminars, webinars, receptions, conferences, and workshops sponsored through the university, partner and community based organizations, and affinity groups.
 

Acts as an advisor to clubs and organizations, Student Government Association, campus ambassadors, and volunteers ensuring campus standards of practice and compliance governing campus based and auxiliary services, i.e. organization bylaws, event calendars, financial administration, contracts, performance agreements, liability insurance.
Serve as a key part of university communications assisting with monitoring and responding to internal and external inquiries, editing email campaigns and press releases, facilitating campus/student communications, creating marketing/promotional products and materials in coordination with marketing department, and utilize traditional print, video, web, and social media channels to increase event attendance, campus affinity, donor and sponsorship development, and overall school spirit.
Establish and oversee an accurate and timely communication plan for student-centered programming and activity-related information, such as a student focused newsletter, weekly email, campus activities
Facebook page, and Student Affairs webpages, ensuring a consistent voice and in compliance with campus solicitation policies.
Given the high visibility level of this position, ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships in a non-judgmental manner with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders as our office helps shape the university’s campus culture. 

A flexible team player that takes initiative on projects and timely administrative follow-through in all aspects of campus-wide programming including the contracting, facilitation, production, and advertising of activities, performances and events.
Display exceptional speaking, writing, and listening abilities while maintaining a high degree of professionalism and ethical standards, including tact, discretion, diplomacy, sensitivity, and respect in both face-to-face and online interactions.
Provide administrative support for all student affairs units. Working with the Director of Student Affairs in coordination with accounting, human resources, IT, facilities, and other university departments in overseeing budgets, procuring supplies and equipment, onboarding new staff and student assistants, and maintaining vendor relationships and agreements.
Represent the university at meetings, conferences, and on committees, actively seek opportunities for thought leadership, such as conference presentations, professional social media visibility, and/or publications.
Contribute to the overall vision and mission of the division and university through participation in community based, industry linked, and professional development opportunities.
