Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs, the Career Development Specialist is a contributing member to the overall management of graduate international and domestic student success at ITU. The successful candidate is a seasoned higher education or industry professional committed to fostering student-centered programs that deliver exceptional services beginning with graduate students’ enrollment and continuing across their life span beyond the university. We are seeking a dynamic individual with an entrepreneurial spirit of a Silicon Valley startup matched with the passion towards building effective relationships and providing innovative solutions in developing a global 21st Century high-tech workforce. This position is responsible for delivering a comprehensive career development and employer relations plan that leverages our relationship with alumni, internship providers, employers, and external partners to create opportunities strengthening students’ prospects for internship and post-graduate employment.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in higher education, business, social sciences, STEM field, or other relevant field.
Minimum of 4-6 years of professional experience in career services, student affairs, human resources, and/or corporate or industry settings.
Understanding of professional development and experiential learning activities for students, including knowledge of how to manage co-curricular programs, which provide meaningful outcomes for students.
Experience in facilitating career development workshops, career coaching, and advancement of student related programming for adult student populations.
Knowledge of career development theories, current job market trends, and best practices for resumes, cover letters, networking, interviewing, job searching, etc.
Demonstrate excellent written and communication capabilities, strong public speaking skills, and the political acumen to develop positive, ongoing relationships with a multitude of diverse stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking, and organizational skills; attention to detail with an ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Evidence of understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, and sexual orientation of graduate students, faculty, and staff.
Commitment to supporting, empowering, and retaining a rich cultural and linguistically diverse international and domestic student body.
Understanding of the policies, practices, and procedures involved in a career services operation in a university environment, including knowledge of business and industry opportunities.
Strong technology skills including Microsoft Office, career-related software and tools, and online research.
 

Work Hours: Non-traditional work hours will be required to accommodate the nature of evening and weekend student attendance, availability, and program delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
Managerial experience with strategy implementation, collaborative partnerships, project management, performance measurement, talent management, and budget oversight.
Familiarity and flexibility to take on multiple roles within university student services.
Experience with student government, volunteer boards and committees.
Experience in large-scale event planning, research methodology, donor development, and/or grant writing.

Additional Information

Duties & Responsibilities
Facilitate signature programs that increase participation in programming that focuses on career education, networking, leadership development, corporate relations, alumni relations, and integration with
academic programs.
Employ relevant career assessment tools through multiple learning methodologies such as use of technology for online workshops, face-to-face meetings, hybrid, experiential, and learning communities to bring about clarity in students’ purpose-driven brand.
Remain current on recruiting and hiring practices, employer needs, and trends affecting graduate students. Primary emphasis is on maintaining competitive career placement for each of the graduate programs.
Outreach and establish relationships with a range of stakeholders managing mutually beneficial partnerships with major corporations, local businesses, government, and community organizations.
Cultivate and manage deep relationships with faculty, researchers, and staff to ensure integration with areas across campus.
Oversee the processes that shape the use of partner advisory groups and alumni association members in student engagement and mentoring opportunities.
Evaluate and fully implement technologies that provide state-of-the art software programs, including web based and mobile apps, for students, employers, and alumni to increase employment opportunities.
Develop protocols to manage the collection, assessment, and reporting of student career interest and alumni employment data. Ensure the compilation, analysis, and distribution of annual and longitudinal reports.
Researches, recommends, and implements new educational, diversity and community service initiatives that enhance the graduate student experience.

Represent the university at meetings, conferences, and on committees, actively seek opportunities for thought leadership, such as conference presentations, professional social media visibility, and/or publications.
Contribute to the overall vision and mission of the division and university through participation in community based, industry linked, and professional development opportunities.
