Job Description

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist (ESH) provides environmental, occupational healthand Safety (EOHS) management to the facility. The EHS will support the project to develop andprovide comprehensive, environmental, safety and compliance programs. The duties will requirecoordination of safety initiatives and promotion of a culture of safety for both the staff and patients tominimise risks. The role is the key practical interface in the provision of EOHS risk managementwith internal and external stakeholders. The EHS will utilise problem solving skills to assist in thedevelopment and implementation of safety processes and improvements. The Environmental Healthand Safety Specialist will continue to read, research relevant subject matter to maintain current knowledge and competencies within the environmental, health and safety field.

Qualifications

  • Implement emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Conduct routine facility and program compliance audits. Produce supporting documentation
  • for audit findings and assist with the follow-up. Assist in the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Medical Health Intelligence Risk Assessment. Assist with identification of the prevalent health threat level and required mitigation measures. Monitor and provide Med intelligence on new and emerging health threats in collaboration with Preventive medicine.

Incident and Accident Management-Directly support departmental heads in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, and appropriate learning outcomes.

Fire Safety-Develop, implement, and monitor the Fire Safety Plan. Undertake routine safety checks of firefighting and monitoring/alarm equipment within communal areas and working and domestic accommodation. Provide periodic training in fire safety prevention and control measures and provide oversight and feedback to management on completed fire drills.

Risk Assessments- Develop, in conjunction with the Facility Health Manager, suitable and sufficient general and departmental risk assessments and periodically review as required.

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health-Directly support departmental heads in the development of COSHH specific assessments, effective control, storage and onwards management.

Occupational Hygiene- Directly support departmental heads in the determination of OH hazards, required controls, and additional actions as they arise.

Communicable Disease Management- Act as the advisor for CD management within the facility. Investigate and support CD management control teams with food poisoning and other CD outbreaks. Provide proactive and reactive health education advice to cases,contacts, and the general population.

Water Hygiene-Support the routine monitoring of potable water quality.

Food Safety-Support the routine monitoring of any catering operations and periodic formal review of service provider compliance.

Pest and Vector Control- Act as an advisor on matters relating to pest control. · Sanitation and Waste Management. Act as the primary advisor on matters relating to sanitation and waste management.

Climatic Hazards- Advise on climatic hazards and control measures.

Quality & Assurance Activities- Participate in the delivery of Quality and Assurance activities. Support the audit, management, and delivery of such Q & A activities.

Induction and Arrivals- Deliver Health Induction briefings when required. ·

Sustainability-Advise on asset procurement specifications as required.Training and assist in forecast and delivery of 3-month training plan. Deliver weekly EOHS training sessions. · Actively participates in Mass Casualty exercises and events. Performance of other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Knowledge 

  • Preference for Experience working in a similar EHS role in a clinical setting.
  • 3 years' work experience in environmental, health, occupational safety, or risk management.
  • Knowledge of NSF, ANSI, AIHA and ASHRAE guides and standards.
  • OSHA 40-hour training preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience on a military site, working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.

Education Required:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent education credentials in Biological Science, Environmental health and Safety, applied science or public health Or equivalent background experience and training providing knowledge of appropriate environmental health and safety practices principles and procedures.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizen
  • Must be able to relocate to Kaiserslautern, Germany.
  • A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay in Germany.

  • Must have a valid U.S. passport due to contract requirements.

Compensation | Min: $81,900 Max: $111,000

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
