Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Logistics Project Manager role on a permanent contract to join our team in LE West, Barking. The successful candidate will be directly responsible for the arrangement and coordination of timely and cost-effective execution of all Government Services shipments.  As part of project ownership, the Logistics Project Manager will negotiate strategic global contracts with 3PL providers, align cross-functional stakeholders, set and execute to project metrics. The goal is to manage the entire order cycle so as to enhance business development and ensure sustainability and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages and establishes global contracts relating to Freight Forwarding Services (including tendering, evaluation in coordination with MedSupply Head Quarters and Government Services)
  • Negotiates, selects and manages the procurement of all global ocean and air freight forwarding services
  • Provides MedSupply Head Quarters and Government Services team with timely and accurate freight estimates and quotations to ensure accurate budget allocation
  • In liaison with forwarding agents arranges consolidation and containerisation of shipments, taking into account programme priority, warehouse capacity, purchase order delivery dates and special requests from the Customers
  • Keep track of quality, quantity, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency.  And follow up on late deliveries and expedites reports provided by Freight Forwarders
  • Validates all shipping documents, bills of lading, airway bills, packing list etc., and updates the relevant parties
  • Analyses and verifies invoices for freight and associated charges
  • Provides guidance and advice to cross-functional team on shipping matters such as packing, containerisation, full aircraft charter, mode of shipment, routings, etc. enabling correct instructions in purchase orders and cost-effective delivery
  • Investigates new routings, maintains and updates freight tariffs as well as the Customer Master for all Government Services projects
  • Ensure all site policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Ensure all communications with both internal and external stakeholders are managed in a professional manner
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned


Profile

  • Very good knowledge of shipping, logistics, international freight forwarding
  • Project management skills (documented / certified)
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills, flexible and capable of multi-tasking
  • Good customer service attitude. Sensitivity to both internal and external customer needs and expectations
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude when under pressure and in stressful situations
  • Ability to use current job related computer software and databases. Proficiency in Microsoft Office package, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio, is required. A sound knowledge of Excel based analytical tools
  • Ability to establish harmonious work relationships with all colleagues in an international and multicultural environment

Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary education with additional training in shipping and project management certification


Required Work Experience

  • Broad demonstration of experience and responsibility in a commercial/government organisation at the national and international level in the transportation with ocean carriers or air charter companies
  • Extensive practical experience in a shipping and insurance/claims position is required
  • Experience with emerging market and/or conflict country logistics
  • Knowledge and experience with designing complex logistics solutions, negotiating and managing contracts with logistics service providers and internal coordination
