    Job Description

    We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Finance Analyst located out of our Bloomington corporate office.  This position plays a key role in the General Accounting function by providing financial accounting, reporting, and analysis in support of business operations and SEC reporting compliance for Dairy Queen’s parent company, Berkshire Hathaway. Responsible for managing key processes in monthly financial close, reporting financial results, setting financial budgets, and ensuring compliance with U.S GAAP accounting and reporting standards. This role will work collaboratively across the Finance team and partner cross-functionally to improve reporting, systems, and processes.

    Key Accountabilities Include:

    • Maintain general ledger accounts by preparing and approving journal entries and account reconciliations monthly resolving any discrepancies to support account balances.
    • Develop and implement account analysis schedules including rollforward and trend analysis to reconcile accounts ensuring accurate balances for financial close process.  
    • Analyze financial statement balances, activity, and variances to ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial reports using effective planning, monitoring, and problem solving.
    • Lead internal cost center reporting and analysis for management review providing accounting support, financial metrics, and business insights to cost center owners.
    • Prepare financial statements and schedules for external reporting package submitted to Berkshire Hathaway. Identify and drive improvements in external reporting process using reporting tools (Jet, Power BI) to automate reports and validate data.
    • Own accounting modules (general ledger, consolidation) in Microsoft D365 financial system by maintaining chart of accounts, resolving system issues, testing system upgrades and enhancements, and integrating new technology.
    • Lead budget and forecast process for assigned areas through partnership with cost center owners to validate assumptions and inputs, build financial models, and align on budget targets to improve profitability.
    • Assist with technical accounting research for new transactions to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP accounting standards and implementation of new ASC accounting and reporting standards.
    • Document process narratives for training and to identify opportunities for process improvements that create efficiencies and reduce time frames for deliverables in financial close process.
    • Partner with external audit firm to ensure all assigned audits are completed on a timely basis. Coordinate franchisee review meetings with internal teams and franchisee committees.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
    • 7+ years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, or related experience

    Preferred:

    • CPA license
    • MBA degree
    • Public accounting experience
    • Experience with ERP and general ledger systems, Microsoft D365 preferred
    • Experience with Account Reconciliation management systems, Blackline preferred
    • Experience with data analysis tools, Jet and Power BI preferred
    • Experience documenting accounting processes and technical accounting research

    • Strong understanding of internal controls
    • Intermediate user level of Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, macros, solver) and proficient in Word and PowerPoint
    • Ability to work in an office environment and out of your home
