Communication Specialist

  • Full-time

Company Description

At IKEA, we do things a little differently. We think differently, act differently and work differently too. It is all part of our vision to create a better everyday life for the many people.

About the team and assignment

The Communication team leads and enables impactful communication that strengthens the IKEA Brand by creating engagement, building trust and empowering better business. In this role you will have the opportunity to turn business needs into communication that helps people understand, connect and take action.

We are looking for a hands-on Communication Specialist who brings strong graphic and visual design capability to the team. You think visually before you think in text and can turn complex, often text-heavy business information into simple, intuitive visual stories and messages that help people understand, engage and act. You also have a keen interest in broader communication tasks—either with experience in these areas already or with the motivation to develop further into a wider communication assignment.

In this role, you will create and deliver communication for relevant audiences and channels. You will combine advanced visual thinking and concept development with communication, writing and publishing, as well as the planning and coordination of assignments that support business priorities.

You will work closely with colleagues across functions and networks. To succeed, you need to be curious, service-minded and motivated by making communication easier to understand and use. Self-leadership is important: you are comfortable in taking initiative and responsibility for your own deliveries, while contributing as part of a team.

Job Description

As Communication Specialist, you will:

·       Turn complex and text-heavy business information into simple, intuitive visual stories and messages by developing original concepts, using more visuals and less text, and exploring new and unexpected solutions.

  • Develop and anchor visual communication concepts for prioritised business topics and provide hands-on presentation creation.
  • Coordinate and execute communication tasks and projects that support the development of the business.
  • Create and activate content in relevant channels to reach the right target groups.

  • Participate and contribute to relevant networks and cross-functional assignments.
  • Act as an ambassador and role model for the IKEA Brand, culture and values.

Qualifications

This is a great opportunity for a strong graphic or visual designer who wants to develop further within communication field. You bring advanced visual thinking, strong concept development and the craft to execute ideas professionally. You know how to work with communication, how to engage stakeholders and can balance creativity with structure, quality and delivery.

About you

  • You have relevant education in graphic design, visual communication, communication design or equivalent work experience of at least 3 years in a similar role, preferably in a multinational company.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator along with basic knowledge of Photoshop for basic photo editing and image adjustments.
  • You have experience with broader communication tasks or a strong motivation and demonstrated ability to develop in this area. You understand how audience needs, business context, channels, storytelling and tone of voice shape effective communication.
  • You can write and speak in an inspiring and clear way, adapting to the tone of voice of the company.
  • You are a hands-on, structured and service-minded team player who builds trust, works well with diverse groups and takes responsibility for meeting deadlines.
  • You show strong self-leadership by taking initiative, setting priorities and driving your work forward while asking for support and involving others when needed.
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English.
  • You are motivated to share and live the IKEA culture and values.

It is an advantage if you also have

  • Work experience as a communicator that goes beyond graphical design.
  • Experience with content management systems, web publishing and common communication platforms.
  • A keen interest and curiosity in exploring technical solutions that improve communication and collaboration, such as AI, meeting platforms, SharePoint and similar tools.
