Job Description

We are looking for a self driven engineer who wants to make a difference! Your primary responsibility is to develop packaging solutions for our range, but you will also lead initiatives and projects in parallel delivering to the IKEA direction and movements.

In Range Area Seating we are responsible to develop IKEA’s sofas and sofa-beds, armchairs, and footstools as well as coffee tables. In IKEA we are known for applying the flat packaging solution, to make the transport of our products to our customers home more convenient while at the same time delivering to both sustainability and our business. As a Packaging Solution Engineer, t's your job to reduce volume and find effective packaging solutions to fit our range through all touchpoints in the IKEA value chain.

Within IKEA we actively work to reduce the amount of single use plastics and finding new innovative and more sustainable solutions for packaging our products. To make this happen, you need to be curious and hungry to explore how material development can make an impact for us and how it can be implemented in our products through close collaboration with our development partners and suppliers.

As a Packaging Solution Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing packaging solutions for multichannel to meet demands on form, function, cost, quality, and sustainability and make sure they work through the total value chain and the whole product lifecycle.
  • Keeping the documentation up to date and according to IKEA standards
  • Securing that the packaging solution meets all legal requirements.
  • Exploring new materials for packaging and discovering ways to improve costs, reliability, and sustainability in packaging.
  • Improve our working methods for virtual development of packaging solutions.

Qualifications

In this role you need to have analytical and creative skills and the ability to transfer knowledge, concepts, and ideas into packaging solutions. You pay attention to details while working with product documentation, even when the tasks become repetitive, and the workload is high. Since you will work with several different stakeholders you need to have effective communication ability, work in a proactive way, and make things happen through involving and engaging people.

We are looking for someone with knowledge in packaging construction in terms of drawing technique, technical solutions, and design for manufacturing. You have experience of working in 3D tools, preferably Artios CAD & SolidWorks. Furthermore, you have knowledge of packaging requirements and global packaging test methods and standards. You have a theoretical or practical knowledge about packaging and its impact in the value chain, from raw material to the co-worker and customer perspective.
