To our amazing Engineering team at Range Area Children’s IKEA we are now looking for a  Mechanical Design Engineer!

Job Description

As our new Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be a key person in the development of new children’s products and you will work with a big variety of product types and materials.

  • Develop the mechanical design in different materials and functions, from concept sketch to final product, always having all aspects of Democratic Design in mind.
  • Search for, develop and deploy innovative solutions and materials.
  • To secure that all mechanical requirements (legal as functional) are covered by the product design.
  • To develop, document and maintain the digital 3D models and 2D drawings with all relevant dimensions and tolerances according to IKEA CAD Standards.
  • To evaluate designs with Calculations and (FEM) simulations together with our in-house FEA-experts before testing on prototypes.
  • To be the main contact with IKEA of Sweden prototype department.
  • Evaluate product improve initiatives suggested by our business partners.
  • Act on product deviations connected to safety, quality and compliance.

Qualifications

As a person you are confident in your expertise, has a prestige less approach and understand when to include stakeholders and create alignment. We believe that you are highly committed and self-driven person that can work in several team constellations at the same time. You have probably a university degree in mechanical engineering and experience from working with product development in different kind of materials and production methods. You have very good competence in 3D CAD engineering with a good understanding of FEM analysis and basic structural dimensioning, and you know how to transfer your knowledge into mass production environment. You are a problem solver with strong communication skills with the ability to build relations. You have a passion for details, and you are motivated by working in a rapidly changing environment. You can work with product documentation, even when it becomes repetitive, and you can also be very pragmatic and with a hands-on approach.

To be successful in this role we believe you have:

  • Extensive experience from working with SolidWorks.
  • Experience in working with different materials, some examples among others could be plastics (injection moulding), wood and steel.
  • Experience from mass production processes and robust design.
