We are looking for someone that has a passion for working with the core of the IKEA products. This is a creative assignment where you will need to look into the unknown, using your skills to take the design from ideation through concept generation, development and optimization and deliver ready to use solutions, fully verified in simulations and in physical testing with statistical data.

Job Description

As a design engineer you will lead the engineering design work within the strategic development of more innovative storage functions for IKEA. This work provides a head start and unleashes the potential of outstanding development of our storage products, fulfilling all aspects of IKEA Democratic Design.

About the assignment
You are part of the Product Development Platform Storage team in IKEA of Sweden and together with your team and collaboration partners, you always strive to work closely with the Range Areas to understand the business and the consumer needs and turn these into solutions. Some of your most important tasks will be to:
•    Invent and develop new solutions within the Product Development Platforms Storage project portfolio
•    Performing the engineering design work for the solutions i.e. starting with innovative conceptual design and optimization of the solution throughout the complete development cycle, delivering ready and usable solutions 
•    Quality assure engineering deliverables in the Develop New Solution process
•    Realize innovations in tangible virtual and physical prototypes
•    Product optimization towards IKEA democratic design goals
•    Verify the solution towards the product requirements during the development phase
•    Secure that the final solution is correctly specified for manufacturing and stable over process variances
You will in your role lead the development towards clear targets, make sure that we verify the potential application area and defines the performance of the solution. 

About you
You come from working with product development and mechanical design. You believe in the power of innovation with a clear ambition to make things better, searching for new simple and smart solutions. With the ability to lead through hard work you create strong and trustful networks and relationships. We believe you also have/are:
•    University degree in Engineering or similar
•    Good knowledge in designing for mass production and in many different materials
•    Experience in working in a simulation driven development
•    Ability to transfer solutions into technical documentation (CAD) capturing design intent
•    Knowledge, experience and understanding of the customers’ dreams and needs
•    Analytical skills with the ability to transfer knowledge and data into needs and actions
•    Experience in requirement management and verification planning
•    Work in teams and make things happen through involving and engaging people

Additional information
This is a permanent position based in Älmhult, Sweden. Älmhult has commuting possibilities with hourly trains to Malmö, Lund and Växjö and an IKEA shuttle bus back and forth to Helsingborg three times a day. Presence at the office is required.
