Our development teams consist of many different roles, such as Technical Project Leader, Requirement Specialist, Designer etc. And this is where you as a Finite Element Analysis Engineer (FEA Engineer) come into the picture as well!  

What is the role all about?

The FEA Engineer is an important player in the team, with responsibility to work with product development. This is not just a way of saying. It´s about getting high quality products at low cost to the market in a more efficient way, by optimize designs, predicting product performance and validate behavior of virtual prototypes during product development. 

The FEA Engineer use structural linear or nonlinear and dynamics analysis to predict product and furniture behavior. You will also from a decided design volume, apply loads and boundaries and create the optimal design from a solid dynamic or stiffness perspective. You will establish and validate material models and parameters needed for FEA and together with the development team verify calculation and simulation results with real product tests. In your work you will use different CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) tools, such as LS-Dyna and Hyperworks. Furthermore, you will create test methods including load cases, boundaries and safety factors that fulfil the needs in a reliable and fact-based way. You will work closely with the engineers in the product development teams, as well as have a close dialogue with external partners. It will be a highly rewarding work. And yes, it will be a lot of fun!

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

You are an Engineer maybe in the beginning, with a university degree in Engineering with focus on Product Development or equivalent – and with a curiosity and interest in Comfort products (upholstered products like beds, mattresses and sofas etc.) or even some experience from working with comfort products. An innovative thinker and interested in upholstered and non-upholstered furniture to be to the point. It´s a merit if you have experience in working with simulation driven product development. It´s a role that requires a constant desire for renewal, a skilled eye for where improvements are needed, follow through and make this change happen while creating togetherness and enthusiasm.

Furthermore, you have: 

  • Good knowledge in associated software’s, we use Hyperworks and LS Dyna
  • Interest in developing good technical reports and guides  
  • Basic knowledge of statistical methods, design of experiments and programming 

You work in a structured way based on good analytical skills and find it interesting to work within a network of many different stakeholders, both internal and external ones. You have strong communication skills and build good relations based on trust. IKEA of Sweden is a truly global environment, with colleagues from all over the world and you therefore need to be fluent in English both verbal and written.

The first step into our organisation

You will start your journey at IKEA by being part of an introduction program where you will learn how we develop upholstered products that fulfils the needs and dreams of our customers in close cooperation with our suppliers. You will experience our different capabilities collaborating to develop the final product and at the same time build your network. This role includes some travelling.

Product Development Platforms is a development unit within IKEA of Sweden that has the assignment to identify and develop product platforms which span across multiple range and product segments such as sofas, beds and mattresses. By doing this we both secure comfort quality and create scale advantages and lowering costs significantly that we pass on to our customer. The product platforms also contribute to a richer and smarter product offer and are also a key enabler for reaching our sustainability goals outlined in our IKEA direction. By predeveloped, ready to use modules we are providing a head start in the final Product development.
