Master Thesis, BAST and COTTON Fiber Innovation

  • Intern

Company Description

IKEA has an ambition to inspire and enable more than 1 billion people to live a better everyday life within the limits of the planet.
We want to offer affordable and accessible solutions for healthy and sustainable living through our home furnishing offer, knowledge and ideas meeting all customer touch points.

Job Description

We are always looking for new innovations to meet our customer needs, today and in the future.
For this thesis, we would like you to look into bast and cotton fiber (the growing, production, and processing into textile fiber) innovations.
Which of the mapped innovations do you conclude have the potential to become a material we could use to meet the many people’s needs when it comes to Textile furnishing of the future?

As a company we are on a journey to become fully circular by 2030, to only use renewable and recycled materials. To ensure we stay true to our plans we understand the importance of involving many different competencies in making our roadmaps become reality.
We are looking for two curious students in the agriculture, stem-cell, biotech, or possibly textile areas that are up to doing a mapping of the innovation arena for bast and cotton fibers.
This mapping (desktop study) should conclude in a summary presenting projects, in different stages of innovation, where you believe, IKEA could get involved to make a difference.

This is a desktop study where the majority of the thesis will be made remotely. Where possible we bring students to IKEA of Sweden in Älmhult to meet and experience the head office – this will be subject to travel and meet recommendations.

Qualifications

Master level, Skills, and education within agriculture, stem-cell, biotech, or possibly textiles-related programs.
You MUST have a passion and curiosity for creating a better everyday life for people and the planet.
