At IKEA Franchise we are responsible for ensuring that the IKEA Concept is continuously developed to lay a solid foundation for a modern IKEA Brand. Integral for us is to ensure that our (digital) offer to franchisees remains relevant amidst the fast technological development currently changing everyday life and challenging the face of our business. This is a highly innovative task that requires that we find new ways to innovate, and use innovation, together. The last couple of years, we have been working extensively within the area of Spatial computing and Visual intelligence, both in exploration cases as well as in the real world. Our findings are clear: the impact of this area will only increase over time, and it belongs in the IKEA experience. Spatial computing and Visual intelligence are so much more than curious features; they are likely to become vital to the concept across the entire IKEA value chain, not least in the shopping context. We have gone far with this early technology already, but we are only getting started: Now is the time to truly scale our effort by establishing a new platform area of Spatial computing & Visual intelligence ensuring relevant, scalable, long-term and reliable services and solutions based on the needs from of franchisees and across the IKEA value-chain.
About the job
Come and join us as Software and DevOps Engineer in these exciting times! Be part of establishing the platform area by evolving existing solutions as well as work closely with our innovation teams operationalizing and scaling new global solutions fit-for-purpose for +50 markets around the IKEA globe as well as for internal product teams.
Your job as Software/DevOps engineer is to be a developer and preferable full stack engineer and with primary focus on back-end development of our current Augmented Reality solution. As the solution is developed in an agile way, you will be part of the team on daily basis, defining tasks, code them, test other product member tasks and more. In addition to continuous development of the current backend solution, you will also work closely with our front-end engineers, consuming product teams and franchisees as well as innovation teams exploring new opportunities in the area of Spatial Computing. You will ensure that our solutions are built with good software architecture with a strong connection to the IKEA digital backbone and will continuously improve the way of working. In addition to software engineer skills we see that you are also experienced in DevOps principles working closely with our DevOps engineers ensuring deployment pipelines, secure coding, automatic unit test frameworks and performance test frameworks.
On a day to day as a Software and DevOps Engineer you will do this and more:
- Be responsible for design, development, deployment, maintenance and improvement of our current Augmented reality solution.
- Be in the forefront of developing next-generation software for spatial computing in order to reach more of the many people and contribute to a better everyday life.
- Contributes to the development of standards against which software development can take place, as well as exploring and bringing in new technologies to boost innovation and development productivity.
- Have ownership of tools and methods for continuous integration, leaving feedback to the rest of the organisation
- Ensuring the automated deployment pipeline becomes a consistent and repeatable processes, ultimately allowing for safer and more rapid delivery of tested software.
You’ve been working in an engineering capacity in a modern tech environment for couple of years now and have good understanding of industry trends, modern cloud based architecture and software engineering related to spatial computing. As a person you like working in an agile, entrepreneurial environment and have the ability to embed a culture of agile ways of working and continuous improvement, encouraging simplicity, efficiency, ownership and accountability.
You have the curiosity, passion and energy to learn and develop every day. As a person you are appreciated for your genuine interest in working with many different people and building strong relationships and networks.
You will bring experience of leading a software development team. You have good understanding of language-independent data format files, end-to-end integration and automated deployment pipeline and good knowledge in the following development areas:
- Objective-C, Java, (Unity) C# or other programming languages
- C# MVC .NET development
- Python, Perl, NodeJS, Angular

In Core Business Franchise we are responsible for the IKEA strategic framework and keeping it together through an IKEA Concept which is updated, relevant, implemented and followed-up together with all IKEA trademark users.
We are looking for two Software and DevOps engineers to the Spatial computing platform team on a full time basis (40h/week). Travels may be required in the future.
