“Safer life at home” is a two-year strategic initiative that serves as the umbrella for other initiatives and activities in IKEA to accelerate how we work with product safety, taking the lead towards a safer life at home for our customers. “Safer Life at home” is driven from IKEA of Sweden in Älmhult. We are a small group of dedicated co-workers that work close and together with many different stakeholders across the whole IKEA value chain to make it happen.

We are now looking for a  Product  Design Engineer to Safer Life at Home.

Job Description

As Product Design Engineer within Safer Life at Home you will review and where needed improve wall attachment technical solutions for wall attachment applied across the entire IKEA range, with focus on storage furniture. Focus on both the wall attachment hardware itself, as well as how this is connected to the product and the wall. Take a consumer perspective and find improvements to overcome potential barriers to wall attachment.

Part of your assignment include:

  • Investigate any safety or ease of installation related challenges and root causes, leveraging existing knowledge and creating additional insights where needed.
  • Develop concepts to improve on possible challenges and root causes.
  • Develop application plan which existing or new solution to be applied in which part of the IKEA range going forward.
  • Develop transition plan of how to move from today towards desired situation tomorrow.
  • Manage technical project issues/risks in a systematic way, facilitate escalation and apply corrective actions.
  • Enable and secure development partners and supplier’s contribution to the product development from a technical perspective.
  • Perform product risk assessments together with relevant competences.

Note that this is a temporary position to August 31, 2022

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you have a strong desire to create a better everyday life for the many people, especially a safer everyday life and make it easy for the consumer to attach furniture correctly to the wall. Project management skills across different functions and organisations. Product development and improvement skills from a technical perspective. Analytical skills to work in a structured way with across a wide range of products and a strong will to influence and make a difference

You have a solid mechanical design background, preferably with experience in area of wall attachment.

You are with fluent in both spoken and written English.
