Category Area Electronics is responsible for sourcing home appliances, lamps and lighting solutions, batteries and connected (smart) products for all IKEA stores globally. We are nearly 100 co-workers in 8 different locations. We are passionate about electronics and technology applied to the home environment, we work closely with our suppliers across the world and we are now looking for a new combined role of Sustainability Developer and Material and Technology Engineer (MTE) to join our team! 

Job Description

As a Sustainability Developer and Material & Technology Engineer you will, together with the Category Area Sustainability Manager and the Engineering & Quality Manager, deploy and develop the Materials and Sustainability agenda for the entire Category Area Electronics, which in turn will deliver a positive contribution to the overall IKEA Sustainability & Quality Strategy. The main focus areas you will be contributing to are: driving development & implement the IKEA Material Direction within CA Electronics including Responsible Sourcing and drive positive change on the climate impact generated by production operations at supplier and by product utilisation at the home of our customers, enabling responsible sourcing of critical materials.

You will support business teams setting priorities, develop and implement common action plans to achieve sustainability & quality goals within specific areas of expertise in line with the Category Area plans.

You will be a member of the Global Sustainability Development and Quality Matrix Groups representing your Category Area, contributing to the overall development of the IKEA Sustainability & Quality agenda, leading, executing or contributing to global development projects.

Your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Develop & Implement Category Area Electronics material direction including traceability and Responsible Sourcing practices.
  • Contribute to the transformation of Category Area Electronics business towards a reduced carbon footprint, in line with the IKEA ambitions
  • Contribute to global projects with focus on Sustainability
  • Contribute to the suppliers development, identifying and implementing ways of working to enable sustainable production footprints and a positive impact for people and the planet
  • Lead and/or support sustainability related projects in alignment with the Category Area plans and priorities
  • Secure and expand Electronics specific knowledge of Material and Technologies
  • Initiate and lead Material & Technology development/improvement projects
  • Continuously search for and be updated on developments in the assigned specialist area (internal and external)

Qualifications

To be successful in the role we see that the following knowledge and experience would be of advantage: 

  • At least 3 years in the Engineering and/or Sustainability Field
  • Knowledge in the renewable energy field, understanding of energy market dynamics and trends, international policies, initiatives and programs towards a low carbon economy
  • Solid knowledge/experience of materials and its characteristics and production technologies
  • (only for external IKEA candidate) preferred degree in materials science or similar degrees
  • Preferred experience in leading or executing energy efficiency or decarbonising projects within the industry sector
  • Strengths in communication, building trust, engage and inspire stakeholders within your scope of responsibility
  • Relational & communication skills
  • Ability to lead in the unknown and build structure
  • Project management skills (experience in leading and delivering into projects)
  • Change management skills (ability to show benefit of new solutions and support stakeholders in seeing long time perspective)
  • (Only for internal IKEA candidates) Knowledge of the IWAY system or equivalent Code of Conducts
  • Excellent English
