Description, IKEA Digital Design System

The IKEA digital design system is a systematic library that contains all the necessary components for building all types of digital solutions – from design principles for user experience design to the basics, like buttons, icons, fonts, etc. It also provides IKEA know-how to guide development of all IKEA digital customer meeting points (websites, apps, digital tools and user interfaces), as well as internal digital solutions and tools. 

Digital solutions at IKEA are created and maintained by numerous teams at different levels and organisations. IKEA digital design system helps all the developers and designers to efficiently create digital solutions with one unique and consistent IKEA identity and user experience, whether internal or customer-facing. 

In this assignment, together with your team and peers across the organisation, you contribute to the design direction of IKEA’s visual identity in digital products based on the digital design principles and guidelines. You are also expected to design, review and implement digital visual design with a strong focus on the user interaction as well as guide and support stakeholders that use the digital design system. 

To be successful, being a creative problem solver and getting things done comes easy. You have vast experience as designer and creative lead in digital product development, preferably both web and mobile, with very good abilities to produce production ready visual design. You have worked with user centric design and are experienced working with user testing and similar methods. You deliver on high expectations through collaborating and engaging people with different competences in a complex and fast paced environment and are as passionate as you are skilled in co-creating better ways forward. 

With a good understanding of digital design patterns, UX design theories and methods, you have developed business successfully and new ideas come to you naturally! We count on your passion for how people live at home across the world and your experience of what makes life at home better. 

As a Digital Designer you will: 

  • Lead and work closely together with stakeholders across Core Business Franchise and across IKEA to strengthen and contribute to a strong and relevant IKEA franchise offer. 

  • Contribute in developing and further enhancing the digital design principles and guidelines, building on consumer insights and insights from stakeholder across Core Business Franchise and the IKEA value chain 

  • Use the digital design principles and guidelines as the base, in designing, reviewing and implementing digital visual design with a strong focus on the user interaction. 

  • Guide and support stakeholders that uses the digital design system. 

  • Uphold and safeguard the core digital components in IKEA’s digital design system from an IKEA identity point of view, across IKEA and different digital domains. 

  • Closely support the Digital Art Director in Digital Design Systems as well as other colleagues (eg. Identity brand specialists, creative leaders and designers) to enable and create relevant, unique and coherent brand identity both in digital and physical customer meeting points. 

  • Work closely with IKEA units across the value chain, to put digital components and communication into context also in a omni-channel environment.   

Qualifications

We will have a keen eye for your knowledge and experience on brand positioning, interior/graphic/product design and/or development and work in retail & business development. It is important that you have a good understanding of how global trends and developments can impact IKEA, especially in the areas of retail, consumer behaviour, digital technology, sustainability and life at home. 

We look for solid knowledge and understanding of trademark questions in general, visual guidelines, tone of voice etc. as well as knowledge in style guides, component libraries and design systems. We believe you are already experienced working with UI design and using prototyping tools, such as Sketch, Adobe XD, FramerX, Principle, Marvel, InVision and specifically Figma design tool as well as being knowledgeable on accessibility and WCGA accessibility guidelines. 

We expect you to have proven ability in leading creative processes and facilitation, making complex tasks and processes understood and actionable. You are recognised for well-developed strategic and analytical skills and a capability to navigate and lead self and others in a complex, unknown and fast-changing environment.  

You also have a solid track record in building knowledge-sharing networks that enable co-creation and constant learning as well as building and sustaining trustful relationships with stakeholders, business partners and peers in global, multi-cultural environments. To make the most of this role, you need to rely on experience in leading other leaders and senior competences as well as developing new potentials.

A few more details for you 

This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and is located in Malmö, Sweden. Strong verbal and written English language skills are a must. Travel is required.
