There are many regulations and standards to comply with when developing home furnishing products. In order to comply with tomorrow’s safety regulations, it’s important to constantly maintain today’s product range and develop new solutions that could be introduced to the market. This project aims to develop an IKEA unique lock system that prevents multiple drawers from being open at the same time.

JOB DESCRIPTION – HOW?
The main purpose is to develop an IKEA unique lock system that prevents multiple drawers from being open at the same time.

The following parts must be included in the work method:
•    Benchmark to evaluate existing solutions
•    Generate market unique design concepts
•    3D modelling, preferable in SolidWorks
•    Simulations or similar to evaluate if the solution would meet the test demands. This could be performed by the student(s) or with support from a FEA engineer.
•    Patent check to ensure the developed solution does not interfere with existing patents
•    Cost estimation of the final solution

It’s encouraged to use GALANT lock solution as reference. Being cost conscious is important for IKEA. Hence, the solution should match GALANT lock solution in cost.

Physical samples are not necessary to be developed. However, if time allows it, physical samples are highly appreciated.
