The Prototype Shop supports the product development process with prototypes of products and technical solutions. Here we create the unique IKEA prototypes and give technical support to designers, product developers and engineers. The goal is to always contribute to development of products and new innovations.

The assignment

IKEA of Sweden is looking for an Engineer to our Prototype shop when one of the team members will retire during the spring.  

A common day in the team often starts with a question coming in from our development organisation, for a technical challenge, within the development process. You will take the expectations and needs from requests and drawings to a creation of a prototype, that demonstrates the product design and it’s characteristics. In other words – you will give life to our great ideas. It could also be that you stepping in as a speaking partner to share your knowledge and ideas on tricky questions. You will work in a dynamic and high-tech workshop environment where the latest equipment such as CNC routers, 3D printers, Laser-cutters and other sophisticated hardware and software are part of your available tools.

Our team work cross functional within and are sharing competence and experience in the interaction with other specialists.

And of course – you will have a lot of fun!

We are looking for you who have the practical engineering skills together with impressive knowledge within a specific material area, in this case wood.

You are in other words a candidates with knowledge and experience within the following areas:

• Proven knowledge from using tools, machinery and equipment for wood.
• Proven ability and experience from working with CAD and digital machinery.
• Experience from a manufacturing industry or a production setting. 
• Since IKEA of Sweden is a truly global environment, with colleagues from all over the world you need to be fluent in English.
• Experience of construction and reading technical drawings e.g. CAD and measured images.
